I’m not a fan of any of the ‘midnight’ (dark blue-tinged) stuff, at least not when it replaces the option for actual black or dark (space) grey. I hope this is the last time they use it.
Apple states that this new midnight color is made with 100 percent recycled mesh fabric which is probably what triggered a press release. The Macrumors article lacks this detail.
I feel like apple changes colors by keeping the same name all of the time. Same with the space grey that looked different depending on which device you had that color on.
weird flex but OK. I value audio quality and want my connected speakers to sound the best they can, the rest be damned. Without the heft of the OG HomePod I had already chalked up the whole line into second-rate ipod hifi territory. I’m guessing this was in development before they pivoted to AI so like the headset they just need to push it out the door and get a return on their investment at this point (running scared after the car debacle)
We have 2 mini's and an OG, ours typically recognize my voice, but 50% of the time it has trouble with my wifes voice. Weird.

Perhaps a better processor and modern wifi connectivity instead of a slightly different shade of black?

The next best version of this device should offer compatibility with Dolby Atmos for connection to Apple TV.
Integration with Apple Intelligenve would also be cool in the homepods, but that's still some way off. Half the features announced in June won't ship in iOS18 until later in the year or 2025. Some of them might not ship at all in the EU.
But an Apple TV 4K refresh, with two homepods minis that can push Dolby Atmos, would make a great home cinema system. I'd upgrade for that.

I don't understand what's going on at Apple. Billions in cash and they can't seem to afford any dye. It's all either shades of grey or very washed out colors.
I didn’t even know it was Space Gray until today. Apple has 50 shades of Space Gray.
