Mine started popping with the 15.0 release. And yes it scares the sh*t outta me when it happens.
Glad it’s not just me. I was more scared it had broken. Are yours ok? Once they don’t break I don’t mind much until there’s a fix.

I was toying with the idea of getting a Homepod Mini to play around with in hopes of setting up some very basic HomeKit items. My first head scratcher is why wasn't this item updated with WiFi 6 (ax/ac)? I find it a bit surprising how Apple has dropped the ball on a rather profitable market - the Pod and Homekit.

However, if I may ask - any suggestions for a not too expensive HomeKit security camera that can do both turn on based on motion sensing and know not to record familiar faces (such as family)? Other question, would remain with avoiding subscriptions and engaging local storage. I gather that items that go into sockets to control lamps and such work reasonably well.

While these are off topic questions, you could look at Logitech or Euvy camera's. Homekit/iCloud compatible, local storage options and no subscriptions (except maybe iCloud storage). I haven't seen any camera yet that has the option of auto-deleting recordings of known people.

Controlling light bulbs and other socketed devices work fine. The biggest factor is the way the devices are connected.
  • Wifi enabled devices usually respond very quick (milage varies per brand though).
  • Standard bluetooth devices can be slow (1-6 seconds with Eve).
  • Devices using bluetooth Thread are very responsive (Eve).

They are still working, although sometimes after a pop, sometimes eventually, it will need to be re-started.

Great. With 15.2 I can no longer airplay to multiple HomePods. Thanks Apple. I have six HomePods and I like being able to go from room to room and hear the same track I was listening to in the previous room.

It just works?

Same issue here. I’m assuming you have a pair connected to your AppleTV? (I have 5 x OG and 2x Minis.)
I did the following to resolve this:

Changed 5GHz Wi-Fi from 80MHz to 40MHz channel width (Cisco claim iOS devices work best at 40MHz width). Also changed 5GHz channels to use 36-48. This is important in the UK/EU as they’re the only channels to allow 23dBm (200mW) of signal strength.
Then I factory reset all HomePods and crucially I did NOT set a pair up for the AppleTV.

Alternatively, instead of making the above changes to 5GHz just turn off 5GHz entirely and use 2.4GHz only. This also resolved the issue, though far from ideal. I ended up trying this after Apple recommended someone do this on an Apple community forum post I came across.
It surprisingly worked!
It seems like AppleTV attached HomePods will break multiroom and they’ve also introduced some 5GHz Wi-Fi issues into the latest firmware.

Note: Prior to the Wi-Fi changes above I’d factory reset everything multiple times and it did not fix. Your mileage may vary.
Make the Wi-Fi changes. Then factory reset all HomePods. In that order. And don’t pair to AppleTV.

A way to test if you have the issue is to go into each HomePod’s settings and see if the timers show. If it says “waiting” or “this HomePod is not on the same network” then you have a problem and need to do the above.
If the timers show instantly then you’re good! Timers must show up instantly for every single HomePod in your home.

For the guys who have the problem with timers / Siri not responding try to delete your home and set it up as new. This helped for me.

Another thing which is super annoying that while playing music the playback controls now always pop up on the iPhone and the watch. Prior to 15.2 you need to connect to the homepod. Is there a way to turn this off? Transmit to Homepod and Handoff are already turned off because it makes more trouble than it is useful.

Just got my first HomePod mini and was excited to selected Apple TV + HomePod to get remote sound in my bedroom, but making the selection silenced both audio sources.

UPDATE: Today's TVOS update seems to have fixed this!

Welcome to Apple’s HomePod.
It’s devs are very much the “B” team.

Lol no it doesn’t. I can no longer say hey Siri turn off the living room tv. Broken. Hey Siri turn off the living room lights. Broken. Hey Siri set the upstairs temperature to anything. Broken. Everything is broken in HomeKit for iOS 15 since launch. Where have you been. I have my whole house in HomeKit and as soon as I updated to iOS 15 it all broke. I just spent 2000$ on a new LG tv that worked with Siri until I updated to iOS 15. iOS 15 has a broken HomeKit. I am so angry I spent all this money and everything worked perfectly in iOS 14 and iOS 15 broke everything I spent my hard earned money in and was so awesome when it worked. Now not so much.
I have learned that for some things, better to wait and see how it works for others. Often certain devices are like that with their software updates. This also includes non "zero day" patches or fixes for an OS or similar.

I was looking at the homepod only to of course find out I am late to the party and now it is only the homepod mini. My hope was to have some homekit ability and now I see that Siri is problematic which somewhat defeats my needs.

Btw, any mention of when a WiFi update is in the works? Rather than "n" I would prefer to go to Wifi6 /ax.

Apple's product took my interest as I am led to believe there is a bit more 'privacy' as compared to Google and Amazon counterparts.

I’ve stopped using mine as Siri keeps interrupting my conversations… it’s very worrisome

Last week I had a speaker telling me off ! ? crazy

Ok my HomeKit Siri seems to be even worse after this update. Now there’s a noticeable 5 second delay when you ask her to set a scene even though it’s instant in the Home app. And she’s still doing the “hang on…” thing.

I even tried recreating scenes from scratch. No difference.

How are some people’s setups working just fine and others completely borked?!

Kind of amazes me - we hear of the Apple eco system and this really is the deal - Homekit, Siri and all things Apple and yet, Apple is botching it as if they were ran by folks at Microsoft.

I think everyone is seeing this, more or less.

Maybe we should start stating what accessories we're having issues with. When I set anything with Philips Hue it is instant and Siri doesn't even respond. Philips Hue stuff works perfectly and instantly.

When I ask for anything from Siri (scenes, lights, etc) that is on the IKEA Tradfri gateway Siri does the above.
Also, when I ask Siri to use Shortcuts connected to IFTTT, such as SwitchBots to turn on printer, coffee machine, door entry, etc, then it also sometimes says it isn't responding, despite doing the action.

Perhaps it is certain HomeKit brands that are problematic?

Please state what you're using and perhaps we can start to spot a trend here.
Once/if we have a trend we can then pressure the right manufacturer to address the issues.

Good idea. I have Hue lights/switches, IKEA lights/switches (added to Hue and made available through HomeBridge) and LIFX bulbs (again, through HomeBridge). I have a bunch of other types/brands of kit but they are not added to scenes so I reckon they'd be irrelevant to list.

And does a scene with just Hue devices work perfectly and instantly, and anything with IKEA not?
We need to know if there is a pattern here ;)

Just made a scene with only 3 Hue lights (native HK lights, not HomeBridge) and nothing else. Still get “on it… still working…” and a delay in doing the thing. And yet when I tap the scene in the Home app: instant. I’ll try and do some more testing but I suspect it will all be the same.
