Is iCloud Photos support under Windows still horribly hobbled? Last time I played with it, it was just a backup scheme really, with no ability to modify your photo library. I mean, it's better than nothing in that it gives Windows users a way to back up their photos, but not really usable for anything else.
they want you to use icloud.com mehhh lolol

Haha, my god those screenshots are ugly. Apparently it's really hard to make a good looking well-proportioned design for windows... Especially that second one. What's going on there? Every element looks crammed or just slightly off, with 6 different font widths, ugly borders and still no sense of hierarchy. No idea where to look. The whole thing still looks like it's Windows 95. So happy I never have to look at that.

OK, so I've been using the iCloud for Windows password sync for a while now and have installed this version. I'm not sure how it's supposed to generate strong passwords. Is this an automatic thing when you sign into a website for the first time? There's no real instructions on how it's supposed to work.

EDIT: So it appears you have to bring up the iCloud Passwords up yourself, input the website information and your user name manually and then it generates a strong password that you copy/paste back into your browser.

That's less than elegant, but I suppose it's better than what it was before, which was nothing.

Windows 13?

Windows iTunes has been trash for a few years now.
Apple has essentially abandoned it for the Macs, leaving only the Windows version.
Only reason I'm using it is to tag files esp. for audiobooks. Love the 'remember position' feature which isn't found in many other iTunes alternative software, which is very important for audiobooks. Don't want to start over from the beginning every time you exit then return to the files.
Yep. I dont even have it installed anymore.
I have free spotify on my pc to play songs - but it's not the same as having my massive iTunes library to access.

Far more important than a (possible) momentary experience of triskaidekaphobia, how do we get this update?

I have 12.5 installed. The Microsoft store tells me that iCloud is already installed - true but no hint as to how to update it.

Especially now that Apple have said there are security issues fixed by 13.

I still cannot believe a mod STILL HASNT UPDATED THE TITLE 🤦‍♂️

Also I’d like to believe like “Windows 9” M$$$$ would skip Windows 13 due to it being “bad luck”

This may also create some kind of misunderstanding.

iCloud is known first as a service, not a front-end client. “iCloud v13” sounds like the service has gone through 12 iterations, at least to people who are not familiar with cloud services.

I mean, it basically has. (I would have pegged the iCloud version at 11, since 1.0 was in mid-2011, but maybe there were two other major releases somewhere mid-cycle.) It's not called iCloud for Windows 13 for nothing; it's the 13th major release of that, and that has to at least somewhat correspond to the service itself.

That said, Apple's phrasing, while confusing, is the most correct. A comma might help: it's iCloud for Windows, version 13.

For a glorified photo sync app, this is one of the worst performance hogs I have ever seen. Use it if you must, but I've just gone to doing manual uploads/downloads to icloud over the web interface.
P.S. For the love of god, please re-work the iTunes for windows App or replace it. I feel like I am traveling back in time to 2010 every time I open it. And stop putting a shortcut on my desktop after every update.

Follow up comment: I am really not sure why Apple thinks that making it's Windows apps so ****** would make users want to switch to a Mac. I feel like if iCloud or iTunes on Windows were actually enjoyable to use, that might make me more interested in an entire operating system made by the same people. Instead it's just "we're going to annoy you with garbage software until you decide to buy a Mac".

Weird serendipity. This came out when I was working on my Windows 11 Bootcamp installation. Two weeks ago was updating my contact for work and synchronizing using iCloud.
I like what Apple did with the app for Windows. Combined with password features I use in 1Password version 7 (not upgrading to 8), some of the power of password management from macOS can reach Windows 11 and synchronize back to the Mac.
Extends my reason to keep Intel Mac for another year while waiting for M2 Max to migrate. I'm thinking will be around 7k for what I am wanting in next rev, so began saving. The dilemma I could use feedback is whether to trade in the MacBook Pro from 2019 16 inch (top tier CPU/RAM/storage), or keep it since I am going for same RAM/storage? If M2 is a 3 mm processor (reportedly to be two or four on a single SOC) for Mac Pro and likely for MacBook Pro rev in 2022, would 128 GB RAM, 16 TB storage even be an option?

So it appears that your camera rolls are no longer stored locally.

The uploads folder location in the app’s settings is gone as well.

Can anyone try uploading a phot by just saving it or dropping it into the iCloud Photos folder and report back?

I just hate iCloud because it simply not bulletproof. I have an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro at home and an iPad and MacBook Pro at work. iCloud is the only option for keeping all my contacts, texts, notes etc. in sync. There has NEVER been a year where I didn't find one or more issues with e.g. my Contacts. I update my Contacts from any of those devices as needed, and one day I'll notice that one or more of my devices has out of sync contact information and I've no idea how long that state has been in play. It's then an infuriating job manually trying to sort out that whole mess. Mark my words, iCloud is NOT robust and needs fixing - I would never use it as an integral part of running a business. They should poach a few guys from Dropbox. I'm so down on Apple's software quality control these days...
