Apple Releases iOS 10.2 With New TV App, New Emoji, and More

They point out something that's new. Does it really matter one way or another?

Probably doesn't matter, but I'd like to know about other new things/fixes besides emojis. I understand that the general Apple market cares more about emojis than a Bluetooth fix or whatever, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Like many of people on MR it seems like, I just need to vent sometimes.

You don't need to do anything, but you can do a "clean install" if you want to.

i understand there would be zero benefit by doing that...

For what it's worth (?), my iPhone 6 (not 6s) on 10.2 seems to be acting normally battery-wise for the first time since 10.1.1 gave it the "craps out when it gets to 34%" bug. Hope I don't end up updating this later to say, "Whoops, never mind."

Did they slow down Touch ID? It's noticeably slower when unlocking my phone.

every time you reboot your phone it reindexes everything which slows things down while it does this. same happens on mac os.

I don't think there's reindexing that happens with every reboot. There are things that load initially on first run/access of things, but I don't think it's a reindexing type of thing that might be happening after actual updates/installs.

Works OK on my 6splus and iPad air 2

iirc if you reboot and immediately launch Photos.app you'll see it's rebuilding / indexing.

I have been on he public beta but no longer want to be.

Other than deleting the developer profile, do I need to do a clean restore of 10.2?

They fixed the "all black background" transparancy trick. I can't get my all black background with hidden bottom bar anymore

Try searching for it using Spotlight. On my iPhone, the update magically placed the TV app in a folder where I keep other movie/TV related apps. No idea how it did that.

The Videos app is now the new TV app

Lasts 3-4 days on my 6S so no battery problems here, I think it has fantastic battery life.

I have to run my phone in low battery mode at 100% and even then it drops to 70% from 100 in about 10-15 minutes of casual use.

Cant even turn bluetooth on to use with Apple Watch as it just kills my battery.

I upgraded from a 3GS to a 6S earlier this year, and was horrified when I saw what has happened with the Music app. It was specifically nerve wracking trying to find the repeat & shuffle buttons.

Can't wait to see where they've buried them now. /s

Music app is a train wreck nowadays.
