****......not again.....almost an update every month..... getting sick with the update...

Apple today released iOS 11.2.6, the eleventh official update to the iOS 11 operating system. iOS 11.2.6 comes approximately one month after the launch of iOS 11.2.5, an update that introduced support for the HomePod, Control Center updates, Siri news, and a slew of bug fixes.

The iOS 11.2.6 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the update, go to Settings --> General --> Software Update.

Apple released iOS 11.2.6 to address a bug that causes apps like Messages to crash on the iPhone and iPad due to an inability to render a specific character in the Indian language Telugu. When sent, received, or input into Messages, Safari, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and more, the Telugu character can cause the app to freeze up and become unresponsive.

In Messages, for example, receiving the character can freeze up the entire Messages app on all of a person's Mac and iOS devices. The Messages app then refuses to function properly until the offending character is removed by deleting the conversation with the person who sent it. Apple's release notes are below:Apple fixed the bug in iOS 11.3 and macOS 10.13.4, but those updates are still in beta testing and won't be released until the spring. Apple last week promised a minor update to fix the bug in the meantime.

Jeez.... Can’t believe people are complaining about an update that stops your phone being less functional or at most, refuse to boot. It barely took 5 mins with just about 40 MB data.

Anyone know what does this character actually stand for in English?
THIS has got to be the smartest post in this thread. Yes, I also am wondering.

I asked one of my Telugu friends what it means and he said something ‘to know’ or ‘knowledge’ or ‘have knowledge of/about’.

This has just blown way out of proportion considering only 6% of Indians speak Telugu and even in Telugu, this character is barely spoken unless you’re chanting/speaking Sanskrit for some rituals and prayers. It isn’t used in common language. Also, most Telugu users rather write in English on their phones as it is a chore to get all the characters correct in one go while typing.

Let me guess....you aren't a software engineer and know nothing about coding?

It sounds like you also are not a software engineer. There is no excuse for a bug like this to CRASH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. Luckily, I'm still running iOS 6 and was unaffected.

Why would you skip it? It's so easy to update it...stop acting so dramatic.

People can also text you the character and if you don't update, serves you right.
Not updating is to some degree not wanting to accept the fact that all software contains many (often minor) bugs.

Why do you change phones so often when each one is as awesome as you say it is?

And all that extra cash you save... you buy more phones with?

It is not uncommon for tech lover own multiple phone at same time.

I have own every generation of iPhone from iPhone 4S until iPhone 6S... every generation of iPads excluding iPad Pro 10.5 (I will buy that when next update along with 12.9). I also own more than 20 Android devices. I love try out them and see what good and bad about each OEMs. It is fun.

With the all extra cash saved. I can go buy more devices or using for travel with my wife.

From all the experiment I have done, I probably will stop buying gadgets sometime. I concluded that currently midrange Android phone is sufficient enough for everyday usage and it is stable enough as daily driver. Android is not like some one described here as unstable malware fasted OS. It is quite stable, secure and feature rich. I won’t buy any iPhone, especially 300 Android One devices can do everything i need and probably most people need.

But is it really free!?!. Say someone violated your house every night at 8pm, and left a big brown one on your floor. All free of charge of course. That’s pretty much comparable IMO.
No it's not, more like someone - with a key you already gave to them - coming into your garage to fix your car or at least waiting at the door for you to let them in.

Satya Nadella is born in the Telugu-speaking heartland. Now thats food for thought... and conspiracies!
:D Good one, I've never seen so much whining about bug fixes.

Lol, a fox does that to our back porch almost every night in the spring and summer. So it amuses me that I can actually say from experience, by no means is your scenario even remotely comparable to timely and needed updates. Yes it’s a pain in the tail sometimes, but I also own Android phones and it’s much worse when you want an update and have to wait...and wait...and wait.

It doesn’t. It crashes some apps running on the operating system.

I don't understand how in 2018 it is possible for an app running on an operating system to crash the operating system.

Look at MS of the past. Apple really is the new Microsoft.

Well if you want to use that analogy....

It's more like to person (that i never gave a key to) standing outside my garage waiting for me to get home every day, then jumping out the bushes startling me and demanding very harshly that the be allowed in to fix my car. When I tell them to get lost they keep screaming at me and banging on my door. Then when I don't let them in, they come back the next day to repeat it all over again.

So tired of the constant flow of updates. Taking my chances and skipping this one. I have a hunch me or my friends won't be using the Indian keyboard anytime soon.

You don't have to use it yourself in order to crash. All it takes is for someone to send you a message with this character. You won't be able to open the messages app anymore.

Wonder how many of these bugs were already on the bug list at time of original IOS11 release.
