messages in iCloud though has been tied to having two factor authentication enabled which is a total pain in the ass so no thanks. i'm not interested in having to enter a passcode every time i pick up my ipod touch or ipad mini at home every 10 minutes or whatever. this whole hyper security era is quite annoying.
WHAT?
It doesn't do it every time on mine.

You don’t put in a passcode every time you pick something up. It’s for when you set up a new device or log into iCloud.com and that’s it. Once a device is set up, I have never had to put in a 2nd factor.

Makes for more reliable syncing across multiple devices. Now when you delete a message, it’s gone on every iOS and macOS device (once activated).

https://ios.gadgethacks.com/how-to/sync-all-your-messages-with-icloud-ios-11-4-0182339/

Unfortunately this seems buggy as heck at the moment. I set up the iCloud Messages steps on my iPhone and iPad both running 11.4. Sometimes they sync, sometimes they don't. Not consistent at all. Definitely not reliable. I think the Apple programmers have poop for brains. They sure seem to be turning out buggy garbage lately!

I've figured out why Apple has just now offered a free month of iCloud storage o_O

It's because as soon as people enable Messages in iCloud, they will immediately start getting notifications that their iCould is full! If you have photos or videos sent via iMessages, your measly 5GB storage will be full stat.

Expect tens of millions of people to start complaining about this in 3...2...1...

Ughhh they removed the ability to adjust volume on the Apple TV on iOS remote control center...... I used that all the time :(

Yeah, what the hell. I'd hoped to be able to stream to my new Apple TV and AirPort Express simultaneously from my phone the way I can with iTunes. Lame.

Your AP Express physically can't handle Airplay 2. It doesn't have the hardware for it. The only reason it works from iTunes is because iTunes can create multiple Airplay 1 streams but if your iPhone did this then your battery would be dead in no time.

It’s irritating that airplay 1 is able to play to multiple devices on macOS, but with airplay 2 I can’t send to multiple airplay 1 devices from my iPhone. Some of us have $100+ speakers that are a few years old and probably won’t be updated for airplay 2 *cough*iHome*cough*.

It’s not a huge deal since I usually stream from my Mac, but it’s just a money grab.

It's not a money grab in the slightest. The AP Express has 64MB of RAM (which for reference is half of what the original iPhone had). It's almost certainly physically impossible to run the AP Express OS and to do Airplay 2 - since Airplay 2 requires the output device to store 'minutes' of audio in RAM whereas Airplay 1 only needed seconds of audio storing in RAM (big difference).

The only time I regularly get a 2FA prompt is when signing into iCloud.com.

As for you whining about being secure, perhaps you should switch to green bubbles, it sounds more your speed.

You'll probably be the first one to scream bloody murder claiming Apple has been hacked when in reality you use the same password across multiple sites and engage in questionable security practices.

Or simply save the photos, videos, and attachments and delete the older messages. That is what I do for Messages. I guess some people think they need to keep a record of every message they ever sent or received, but that seems ludicrous to me. Back up your device ever so often and delete all the older messages you don't HAVE to keep readily available. IMO, if someone has 5GB of messages and attachments, they need to get a life outside of their device.

So i activated the feature on my ipad and my iphone

plugged them both on AC (saw the sync message) But I don<t see anything special. I already in a sense had all my imessage on both devices. So what am I suppose to see (to make sure it worked)?

I’ve yet to see anything on security. The old way iMessages worked was end to end encryption with a message composed for each Apple device.
Then you obviously did't read the notes that apple provided with the update or the article you are commenting on. The release notes specifically say: "Your conversations continue to be end-to-end encrypted"

Um, this is in addition to iCould backups, etc, etc.
Plenty of people have ********s of messages saved from ages ago...
An editor on the Verge wondered why Apple is suddenly offering the free month of storage. This release of 11.4 with iMessages on iCloud is why, hands down (IMO).

My wife has an iPhone 7. Ever since she upgraded to 11.3.1 her mic stopped working to the point where the voice recorder button is greyed out in the native app. She cant make phone calls unless the phone is paired to a bluetooth mic.

I too have an iPhone 7. I'm still on 11.3 and dont dare to upgrade

It is a known issue caused by the update. Go to the Genius Bar they will give your wife a new phone for free.

You're probably wrong.

It is requiring me to set a passcode. As long as it has a passcode it is required every time I unlock the device. I've been through this before. I don't use touch id to unlock.

So if i got to Icloud and Icloud storage it says my message takes 1.4GB

But if i click on mesasge in the same menu it says conversation 0KB

What gives?

2FA actually made certain things easier for me, like setting up Keychain. You don't enter a passcode every time you pick up an iPod, in fact, since I set up 2fa and authenticated, I've seen the prompt only twice in a year, when I accessed my iCloud from a website. And even then, they are super easy to authenticate if you have more than one Apple device. I recommend you trying it out.

Don’t need message in the cloud or photo library when I have 256gb tbh don’t see the point
The point isn't to save you storage space, it's to make setting up a new phone easier. This way your messages download from the cloud. On top of that, it's meant to make managing your devices easier. With Messages in iCloud, you don't need to delete a message from every device.

Does anyone know if the Messages in iCloud will also work on the Apple Watch? Please tell me it will!
[doublepost=1527623565][/doublepost]
I just checked on the dev portal and everything is updated except for 10.13.5 still shows the beta from mid of may. guessing a no go today... which is kinda a bummer was hoping to finally have Messages in the Cloud on all devices.

Including Apple Watch! That will be a true bummer if not supported.
