For jailbreaking (only available up to 14.5.1)?I AM curious though, how did ya'll get stuck on such old versions of iOS 14? Did you turn off update notifications completely? Seems like shooting yourself in the foot security-wise.

Same here… there has been a lot of silence about this, I really really hope they won’t forget how upset people were, and hopefully still are! I would have been due for a new phone this year, and it would have most definitely been an iPhone 13, but I’m not pulling the trigger just yet, with CSAM; it’s just too unpredictable what’s going to happen. 14.8.1 download went really smoothly, no complaints.Waiting to go to 15 because I don’t want to get backdoored into CSAM. Really hoping Apple delays that terrible idea indefinitely.
I hope not. From experience, never let Apple *patch* anything. Always do a full install from iTunes/Finder. But so far,. that doesn't seem to be possible. So this update is only OTA?
You didn't hear about iOS15 scanning your photos in the cloud looking for "child predators"? CSAMWhat am I missing that people are holding out on iOS 15? I haven't really noticed any differences besides GUI, but I also dont do a lot on my phone.
Has this ever happened before, i.e., an iOS version being released as OTA only and never being released as an IPSW?This is the first time I am not seeing the update on https://developer.apple.com/news/releases/
I wanted to know the build number and found it here https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/Firmware
It is also not showing yet on https://ipsw.me/product/iPhone
Maybe it will get posted later, I don't know... iOS 14.8.1 (18H107)
If CSAM is implemented, where does it stated by Apple (not a blog or third party) that it will be specific to iOS 15? How do you know components aren't already in iOS 14?Much appreciated! 14 is where I’ll sit from for a while until I see where CSAM goes.
Again where is it stated by Apple (not a third party) that if CSAM is implemented that it's specific to iOS 14? Since this was first discussed when iOS was the primary version, how do you know that there weren't components already in iOS 14?There is the entire CSAM controversy, where Apple may be scanning the hashes that are created from the pictures on your phone (not the actual picture itself) and comparing those hashes to a database that contains hashes for child pornography to make sure that the pictures on your phone do not match those child porn hashes. That functionality went live with iOS 15.
BL.

Weren’t the hashes found in iOS 14?Unlikely. It was always supposed to be "later this year" even before the delay was announced, presumably because it wasn't ready.
That’s what apples hoping for a very silent release. Maybe no one will notice. No. A hashing function that could potentially be used for CSAM scanning was found in iOS 14 and MacOS Big Sur. But there's a lot more to the proposed system than the hashing function.Weren’t the hashes found in iOS 14?
I didn't find a way and ended up doing it OTA, after making two backups. NEVER trust Apple to be able to patch a live device. Been there, done that, no need to experience it again. How can I update my iPhone from 14.8 to 14.8.1 using my Mac? I’ve always updated for every iOS update using my Mac (I never do OTA), but my Mac only shows that 15.1 is available. How do I update my iPhone to 14.8.1 using my Mac?
oh. i must have overlooked that. I have heard about it but I didnt know it was only on iOS 15, I thought they just changed some background stuffYou didn't hear about iOS15 scanning your photos in the cloud looking for "child predators"? CSAM

It’s the same problem I am experiencing and I don’t know what to do
Maybe wiping will make updating possible. And then just restore from backup
Trying to find an .IPSW also, as I always update via my Mac, I do not trust OTA updates, however it appears apple is only half-arsed supporting iOS 14, with no .IPSW you cannot update via computer, (more reliable), cannot restore, cannot clean install. This is B.S.!This is the first time I am not seeing the update on https://developer.apple.com/news/releases/

Hi all. I was having the same problem repeatedly, then I noted that my iPhone (6S) had only about 2 GB free. It’s the same problem I am experiencing and I don’t know what to do

I don't "hold off" installing iOS 15, I have no reason to install OS 15. When there is a reason, I will consider whether or not to install it.Either way, such concerns should not be a reason to hold off upgrading to iOS 15.0 or 15.1.
This worked for me too. Thanks a lot!Hi all. I was having the same problem repeatedly, then I noted that my iPhone (6S) had only about 2 GB free.
I saw from https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250003031
"You must have at least 5 GB of free storage (for iOS 14)"
I freed up 5 GB and it installed. The installation itself only takes up 342.9 MB FWIW.
