This worked for me too. Thanks a lot!

I had earlier tried freeing up space, but obviously I didn't free up enough of it.
Unfortunately, I have an iPhone SE 1st gen with 16gb, it is very hard to free up more than 2gb without wiping the whole device... Even then I'm not even sure there'd be 5gb. I'm not very happy about it as I'm not ready to move up to iOS 15.

The download for this minor update is 134.6MB in size, come on Apple!

If CSAM is implemented, where does it stated by Apple (not a blog or third party) that it will be specific to iOS 15? How do you know components aren't already in iOS 14?
All I had to go on was those blog or third parties. So for now I wait. I have no guarantees, I'm aware of that. But my gut feeling was the only reason they held off on CSAM for now was so the adoption rates of iOS15 would be higher.

I'm not slighting anyone for upgrading, I'm just not super interested in what they were planning.

Well don't worry then, because you probably can't upgrade to iOS 15 either, without freeing up space!

Have you tried "offloading" a bunch of your third-party apps? Deleting songs or videos that you can re-download later? There are lots of ways to free up space. It's a pain in the ass but it can be done. The core system by itself is only I think ~ 6 or 7 GB.

Whatever happened to the feature where the update process would free up sufficient space by silently offloading a bunch of App Store apps, and then re-installing them once the update has been installed? Normally that's how iOS deals with insufficient free space. I guess I didn't have enough offload-able apps to make a difference.

I feel I've definitely updated iOS 14.x with point updates in the recent past with less than 5 GB free on my device. So why this issue for this update only?

Because of the recent change to the Apple iCloud/Services agreement, I selected not now which somehow disabled my access to iCloud through the iPhone...

And I just found out earlier that before you can download an update, you need to agree to the terms of service...

My guess: to try and keep some of the regulatory antitrust/anticompetition heat off. Apple is getting a lot of criticism from developers for their App Store and related practices lately.

Edited to add: also, maybe they feel that by version 14.x, iOS has matured to the point where they feel they don't need to insist quite so strongly that everyone update to 15.

Staying on 14.x makes more and more sense to me, though Apple probably won't continue security updates for long.

Thnx

Much appreciated! 14 is where I’ll sit from for a while until I see where CSAM goes.
My understanding from previous Mac Rumors articles is that the code for CSAM scanning is already implemented in 14.8 (possibly 14.7 and earlier?) so I can’t see it making any difference if Apple switches it on.

Do you have any links to articles saying that?
