Apple today released iOS 15.1.1, a minor update that comes almost a month after the launch of iOS 15.1.

The iOS 15.1.1 update can be downloaded for free and the software is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the new software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, iOS 15.1.1 improves call drop performance on iPhone 12 and 13 models, so users who have been experiencing dropped calls should see improvements after installing the update. It appears to only be available for devices in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 families, including Pro models, so users with other devices won't see the update.

Is the update only for 12 and 13? Not seeing it on my 11. Usually they release it for all models with other fixes in there too.
The article specifically says 12, and 13 models. I would assume it's hardware specific to those models that has the issue. Probably the modem and other components used. I hope they fixed other things too.

I see it on my iPhone 13 Pro. I guess it really is just for the 12 and 13 series models.

Has anyone updated yet? I’m a little scared. ?

Some of my calls got dropped when I switch audio output from iPhone to Mac. I hope this update solves it.

I have had so many critical calls ring for half a second , then go directly to voicemail.

I hope this fixes that.

I even put specific contacts on emergency override with a special ringtone. But something about the phone or iOS is still sending them directly to voicemail after half a ring

Here’s some snarky feedback:

So, the idea is to have the entire world chatting on a cell phone a few hours a day?

While watching Netflix and Disney+?

That's interesting. I made some calls earlier this week and it was the worst experience, drop calls or full on static noise.

The entire idea of Kindle, Xbox, and Blu-Ray was to get people off the networks, for entertainment, and reduce data consumption.

I think the stereotype of young, middle class “girls” chatting on the phone all day, in the 1980’s, was supposed to highlight the excessive waste of the network allocation. [The networks] were racking up $200 in monthly telephone bills at a loss so that two “girls”, who are neighbors, can gossip late at night about nothing.

They mitigated this issue with AOL Instant Messenger, which drastically reduced the bandwidth by using text messages.

It was later incorporated into cell phones (SMS, MMS).

And now people want to bring back hours and hours of telephone calls with high fidelity audio.

Gee, I wonder how old they were in 1986?

RE: Telephony

I think you can compress the audio quality to 48KHz 320KBps and still reduce data consumption, for crystal clear voice communication.

I’ve used Telephony a few times for non-telephone uses.

I doubt anyone has upgraded iPhone’s chat capabilities since 2009…
