OMG what is the big deal this is a tech used to catch child abusers, what so bad about that?
The implementation. It'll be lousy at it while stepping off the privacy cliff by crossing the device line. As discussed in dedicated threads, there are much more effective methods that are safer for all of us without having to opt-out of major functionality to avoid being subject to scrutiny. Good motive, bad execution.

Has CSAM detection been activated as part of iOS 15/15.1? I didn't see it in any release notes, and am currently, reluctantly, using 15 on an older iPhone as my 12 mini's battery life is absolute garbage when idle (seriously, I go to bed with 40% charge and by 5 AM the phone is completely dead), and the 14.8 update killed my charging speed. The old phone loses 5-10% overnight, the 12 loses 30-40%. Same Carrier, same SIM, same apps, same settings.

Question: How is macro mode different now? I did not find it automatically switching and just tried taking a few pics and dont see the lens change now. What am I missing?

My Mini does NOT have battery drain that bad. I'll go to bed with about 90ish and wake up with it in the low-mid 80's.

But its not like they are looking at your pictures, there is millions of apple users, why would they look at your pictures?
The problem is that Apple crossed the device line. With their system, OUR devices are actively looking for this material and self-reporting to iCloud. Once enough matches hit iCloud, the server decrypts them and sends the photos to human review. The human review process is Apple's only check against government abuse of the database, and thus our only protection from a false report. The human reviewers only get a "visual derivative", so they actually can't even verify the original, high resolution photo.

My problem isn't that Apple is looking at all of our photos. My problems are that Apple themselves has little protection from abuse of the source databases, this system actually won't be all that effective (may actually lead to more child abuse), and that it's our own devices doing the scanning. They should instead only scan shared photos, entirely on-server, if they want to do anything.

It's this kind of care-free attitude that is responsible for why Facebook exists.

The government didn't take away our privacy.

We stupidly offered it up enthusiastically...
It's like China. They didn't TAKE our manufacturing. Our CEO's gave it to them to make more money.

We don't have our Privacy taken, enough people agree to give it up under the guise of "national security, fighting terrorists, and protecting children" that the rest of us have to suffer with the results we saw coming.

Well damn wasn't expecting this today too. Waiting for the Monterey installer to finish on the Mac, might as well get the new iPad Pro and iPhone going as well.

Thanks I see it now. I kept it on but for some reason it is not switching to the ultra wide (or did it?) like it did prior ios. I see it changed now but stays in 1x. maybe this was the way it worked before as I never completely payed attention. either way all good.

just been a few minutes but 13Pro seems faster and smoother. Update was very quick to install.

Does shareplay only work with the TV app or will it also work with HBO Max, Netflix & Etc.?

Optimistic about this release. It feels more incremental than macOS 11 was. Big Sur was a bit rocking IMO and I'm feeling like there's nothing all that big here feature wise. Also hoping this is the beginning of the end for Intel because Apple does a good job tying stuff off and I've got my 2019 MBP for another year and a half or so.

Not a new build for iPhone (same as last week)...

Calendar app will drag and stutter terribly IF you have a subscription to a published calendar. As soon as I remove the subscription, things work as expected but with a subscription inside of the Calendar app, the app is mostly unusable.

Unfortunately, this is a new problem to 15.1. iOS 15.0.x had no such issues. Feedback was filed but the problem is still there on my iPhone 13 Pro... YMMV!

Seems a lot smoother on my iPhone.

The share sheet was broken for me initially. Any time I tried to use it, the app i’m using would freeze and not show anything. Thankfully a reboot fixed that!

I don’t think anyone has a problem with *what* it’s doing, but *how* it’s doing it.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was completely and quietly scrapped, especially after that report a week or so ago of governments already trying to research how to abuse this system.

The Homepod Mini dont support Spatial Audio and Atmos, only the OG do.
