When I went to check for updates, I was prompted if I wanted to allow downloading OS updates over cellular if I lost wifi connection. The choices were to allow updates over cellular, or not.

I enabled updates over cellular, but where do we go if we change our minds? I had a quick look through settings and couldn't find it anywhere.

I am in the US if that matters. I know in the US, updates are allowed over 5G, but this prompt didn't say anything about 5G...just said cellular.
Hey there

This is a per update question and option. This will only relate the the update you get prompted to answer this.l so you will get asked this question each time you start an update over WiFi.

Thanks

Looks like it solved the issue. My 13 PM is no longer getting hot especially when connected to AirPods Pro. I’ve been missing that stellar battery life that made this device stand out from previous models.

Hopefully it fixes the issue where HomePod stops when repeating white noise loops. Apples own white noises are okay, but others have a brief pause when set on repeat.
My HomePod has refused to tell me the forecast for the last two updates despite confirming I have personal requests on. Yet to see a fix for it.

does it fix the safari privacy report issue? for me it wouldnt update as i was visiting sites. its stuck staying 10 trackers prevented but if i press into it there are much more than that. thats the only issue i have with 15.4

Updated my iPhone 8 to 15.4.1 this morning to see if it helps at all with what I suspect is a combination of a degraded battery (as reported in the battery section of the IOS control app) and the 15.4 update together providing abysmal battery life.

Was planning on a battery replacement and even musing about a phone update but will see what happens with this 15.4.1 update.

It makes a lot of sense to allow people to install OS updates over cellular.

There are an increasing proportion of people who don't have any sort of home Internet, and rely entirely on their phone's cellular connection. They may not have access to WiFi often enough to update their devices and stay secure. Allowing updates over cellular is useful for such people.

There's no reason to disallow it as long as the OS is clear about the size of the update and that will use your data plan.
It does not make sense if you pay per GB for your data plan. This feature could cause bill shock if the Apple device is not on an unlimited data plan or if you have a data cap that limits your speeds after a certain amount of data usage. I am glad at least Apple asked if you wanted to use cellular data or not but I can see this causing issues for some consumers.

Normally, I'll give it few days before making any notations about battery life with iOS updates. With iOS 15.4, even after a couple of weeks I did notice the battery drain. I thought it might have been a bug-ridden update to a game I play. But, the overnight battery drain with the phone idle was noticeably higher than normal. We'll see if 15.4.1 fixes that.

Apple today released iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1, minor updates to the iOS and iPadOS 15 operating systems that were released in September. iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 come two weeks after the launch of iOS 15.4.

The iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 updates can be downloaded for free and the software is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the new software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, the update fixes an issue that could cause the battery to drain more quickly than expected after updating to iOS 15.4. It also includes fixes for Made for iPhone hearing devices and Braille devices. iOS and iPadOS 15.4.1 fix an AppleAVD issue that could allow an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple says this exploit may have been actively exploited, so it is a good idea for all users to update as soon as possible.

Apple has also released new tvOS 15.4.1, HomePod 15.4.1, and watchOS 8.5.1 updates to go alongside the iOS 15.4.1 update.

Am I the only one that can't get these updates? Oh wait. It's April fools Day. I do have the beta profile on all devices. Downloading Monterey 12.3.1 now.

Ever since iOS 14 was released over a year ago, tapping on "Learn more" to see information for software updates results in tiny, microscopic text. The problem continues to occur in iOS 15. For even longer, Microsoft AutoUpdate on Mac displays no release notes about new updates, not even a link to view the notes in a web browser. Why are Apple and Microsoft trying to prevent people from reading information about software updates?

My two iPads are still going 10% down by day in standby without any app using power.
For reference, my seven-year-old iPad Air on iOS 12 uses about 3% per day, with wifi on; bluetooth off; location services on.

Absolutely no improvement in my iPhone 8, perhaps even worse. This three year old iPhone with brand new battery can’t even have 1/3 of the battery life as when new. Ridiculous. ?

IOS 15.4.1 has not helped with battery drain. In fact it seems worse after the latest update. My iPhone 13 Pro cannot last more than half a day now with regular use. It used to go all day and overnight without a problem.

Same! I'll go back to 14.5. Apple is playing with us!
Same with my iPhone 13 Pro. This last update to 15.4.1 drains the battery even faster. My phone dies now in the middle of the day. I have never had that with any iPhone going all the way back to the 3.
