Yep, FaceID feature to unlock when wearing a mask, except very few people are wearing masks anymore.

Oh well, at least we'll be ready for the next outbreak.
Exactly, or uf you travke ( lets say for work or other necessity) to a region that still mandates masks.

Finally we can hopefully stop with the silly requests for apple to downgrade to Touch ID. Boy was it tiresome!
Personally I find faceID a but hitt and miss while touch id worked every time ( obviously not vith gloves on but whar would you expect with a fingerprint scanner.), So while not being the loudest person arguing for geting tuch ud back, U'll certainly be glad when/if it comes back, I'm gkad faveid works well fir you, snd nsyby for most, but what us wrong wpwith hawing both? ( unkess having both raises the phines price by unreasonable amount)

Thus is nit a new wave, just the expected jump when we re open and restructions go away, the difference this yine us since the high vaccine rates now reduce the number of cases that are serius enough to require hospital treatment, ouer helth services don't get overwhelmed so no new restrictions and/or mandates are necessary ( at kest not on a national level, maybe loccaly at hotspits)

Apple today released iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4, the fourth major updates to the iOS and iPadOS 15 operating systems that were released in September 2021. iOS and iPadOS 15.4 come a month after the launch of iOS 15.3.1 and iPadOS 15.3.1.

The iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 updates can be downloaded for free and the software is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the new software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 15.4 adds an option to use Face ID while wearing a mask, which works just like normal Face ID but scans the areas around your eyes for authentication. iPadOS 15.4 introduces Universal Control, allowing multiple Macs and iPads to be controlled with the same mouse/trackpad and keyboard.

The updates also add 37 new emoji characters and they lay the groundwork for the new "Tap to Pay on iPhone" feature that allows NFC-compatible iPhones to accept payments through Apple Pay. There are also updates to add custom domains to iCloud Mail right on device, Siri enhancements, new Emergency SOS features, and tons more. Apple's full release notes for the update are below:For a complete overview of all of the features that are available in iOS 15, we have a dedicated iOS 15 roundup.

Why doesn't the iPadPro have the unlock with apple watch feature? Why doesn't it have the unlock with face mask feature either?

Just a word of caution. I updated today to 19E241 and my iPhone 12 Max Pro is in restarting itself every 1-2 min, rendering it useless. It also suddenly showed only 4GB free when there are in fact about 120GB free. I'm attempting to restore via a Mac, but nothing has worked thus far. I've not heard of anyone else yet having this issue, so I'm making note of it to save someone else from this multi-hour headache.

**Post** - I had to roll back to 15.4 (non beta) and restore/update. It appears fine now, but it's unfortunate to have to roll back to non-beta.

***Post/Post*** - the phone was fine for many hours and is now back in the continual restarting mode again rendering it unusable.

The update has made Face ID much much worse for me. As a glasses wearer, mask unlock is patchy if my glasses fog up. But it shouldn’t matter because I have an Apple Watch. But my iPhone never gets unlocked by my watch anymore, even though it’s enabled in settings. I’m entering my passcode constantly since the 15.4 betas.

Won’t install on Iphone 11 pro, it says no wifi but I am on Wifi for sure…no VPN etc. Have seperated the 2.4 and 5GHz Wifi network by different names, inside the airport configurations of multiple airports through the house. Could that be an issue?
Probably just Apple servers being hammered. weird problems sometimes come up when downloading updates on the date of the release.

Personally, I usually just wait until I received an OTA notification.

No, I had the private WIFI address disabled, then it worked!

I noticed a weird bug on my iPhone 11 Pro when I was attempting to do a factory reset while in the process of doing an early upgrade to an iPhone 13. When I clicked on the button to factory reset the device without a backup it would do nothing, when I clicked on factory reset with backup it got stuck on backing up. I had to sign out of my Apple account before it would allow me to do a factory reset on the iPhone 11 Pro.

I thought this had already been finished? They had to do so when making all of their apps native M1.
I don't think so — most Mac applications are still AppKit. I believe what Apple did was make AppKit compatible with the new Apple Silicon processor, but Swift takes the next step and makes all applications automatically scaleable and compatible across all platforms. I wouldn't be surprised if, in the next few years, Apple moves all applications to Swift and deprecates AppKit.

15.4 seems to have fixed a lag I’ve experienced since iOS 15.0 when tapping the audio button during phone calls as shown in the image. It’s instantaneous now whereas before I would tap, have to wait a moment and then the menu would fly out.

Has anyone else been experiencing that lag?

In case anyone who upgraded to iOS 15.4 public release is looking to downgrade, you can still go to iOS 15.3 RC and the developer betas of iOS 15.4

I checked here and found out that they are still signed and I was able to install iOS 15.3 RC just a few minutes ago...

Hello

What is your opinion on iOS 15.4 and the new unlock with mask feature?

When travelling in Asia, the mask is always worn with military discipline.

For my part, I find that unlocking with a mask remains random despite the new update.

We are still required to wear masks on trains and buses here in the US. Needless to say I have noticed it works pretty consistently for me when I am on the train.
