Finally we can hopefully stop with the silly requests for apple to downgrade to Touch ID. Boy was it tiresome!
I prefer Touch ID/home button to Face ID/gestures, significantly, even leaving masks out of it. I really would like Apple to continue making iphones with that kind of interaction. Finally we can hopefully stop with the silly requests for apple to downgrade to Touch ID. Boy was it tiresome!

I don't think Touch ID on the power button is as good as Touch ID on a home button; nor do I think an under-screen fingerprint reader is a good enough replacement either, unless the sensor is literally the entire screen. But I haven't played around with the possible user experience, so perhaps it would work out OK. I feel that Touch ID on a home button gives the cleanest requirements: you can feel for the button blindly, it's in a natural position, and once you've found it you no longer have to move your thumb. Just press and rest without moving, and the home screen is there.Would be great to have both. Touch ID on the power button like on the iPad Air but also Face ID as it is now. Just have an option in settings for Touch ID, Face ID or both depending on user preference.
Most of the times when these things come up, it's a hardware limitation - some small technical difference that most wouldn't notice - rather than the "forced obsolescence" that many jump to claim. The hardware is a little different, and they feel the newer bit works better to program against, and they don't take the extra time to develop a roughly equivalent (but to them slightly inferior) version for the older hardware. I get tired of the brigade around here that screams "planned obsolescence" in cases where there has been very clear differences in the hardware.I wonder why Apple excluded the iPhone 11 series from the Face ID mask unlock? Is it a hardware limitation or is it forced hardware obsolescence trying to get those users to upgrade to a newer iPhone?
Doesn't work with a Darth Vader helmet, either.Face ID still doesn't work with mask and sunglasses on.
It is only compatible with glasses, there is a difference. Sunglasses cant really see your eyes.It actually doesn't work for me with sunglasses on at all, currently, never mind the mask.
I definately agree. I am vax and boosted. i still wear a mask due not not dealing with someone with covid.I know this is a loaded topic and I don't want to get into politics here, but let's just acknowledge that there are people--a lot? a few? whatever you want to think--that are for the continued wearing of masks quite aside from mandates. You could look at this as a mechanism by which mask wearing increases. Perhaps some percentage of those that don't currently wear them would wear them except for this issue, and might start wearing them again. That aside from mandates, the inclusion of this by Apple for recent iPhones could result in (what is considered by some to be) a public benefit. That's good!

Same as RCWhat's the build number for the final release?

Ah... BummerNo, only 12, 13's I believe.
Yes, this could have been released earlier.
Still mandated on planes and trains around here.
UK is seeing a big spike again as I type this.
Plus as already mentioned, another variant will come around. (Sorry, we're not totally out of the woods here, just my thoughts on that.) How potent it will be, who knows.
I thought this had already been finished? They had to do so when making all of their apps native M1.Maybe they're focusing on converting current macOS and iOS/iPadOS applications to Swift first. Once the conversion is done and all applications share one base for all platforms, then maybe Apple will build more applications that can easily be utilized across all platforms (ie, Find My is an example of an application that uses Catalyst/Swift and are the same across all platforms, but scaleable).
I was going to say, I've been using Face ID with RX sunglasses on since this feature came out, never had a problem - when wearing the AW (which was 75-80% working for me). I have very dark polarized lenses, not mirrored though. It’s been working for me with sunglasses on since faceID came out. I don’t think it works with mirrored lenses.
Not here in Germany, where they recently upgraded to FFP2 masks again in shops and almost anywhere that is enclosed.Just in time. Most mask mandates have ended!
Mask wearing continues in Singapore as well. Going downstairs to buy breakfast in a while, so look forward to trying this out with my 13 pro max.Not here in Germany, where they recently upgraded to FFP2 masks again in shops and almost anywhere that is enclosed.
It's IR, sunglasses are designed to block UV. Assume the Face ID laser thing is zapping though my glasses?? ? I'll test the updated Face ID later with sunglasses and mask.
For me, this feature is useful whether there was a pandemic or not. In my country, I've been wearing masks outdoors or when I'm on a motorcycle, simply because of pollution. Having this feature would be useful regardless of the pandemic. Of course, I have a 7+ so it wasn't an issue, but sooner or later FaceID will be the standard for iphones.Thank god there are no more mask mandates in my state. This feature came along a little bit too late.
