Well, same pattern as every other update for the last few years:
  1. Install update, then authenticate myself to get back into my iPhone (or iPad)
  2. Get presented with a screen saying the OS has been updated
  3. Get asked if I want to use Siri (yes, I've been using Siri for years)
  4. Get presented with a screen showing how I can use the Home button on my iPhone 8 / iPad Air 3 to activate Siri
  5. Go into Settings > Siri & Search, and TURN Listen for "Hey Siri" BACK OFF.
I said I wanted to use Siri and I do. When I activate it by holding down the Home button. Why does Apple insist on turning "Listen for Hey Siri" back on? I didn't ask for that and I didn't have it on before. You're not being helpful, Apple.

When I'm at home, my HomePods listen for "Hey Siri", and they're the only ones I want answering those requests - I don't need multiple devices trying to decide which is closest / who should handle the response. If I want Siri on any other device, I know which button to push - literally. And, in particular, when I'm out and about, I do NOT want my iPhone / iPad / AirPods listening to the whole world trying to see if someone (maybe me or maybe someone else) said, "Hey Siri".

Yes, I can work around this (as above). I shouldn't have to. They don't appear to wipe out any of my other settings, why do they keep resetting this one?
I've never had that happen. I always update using iTunes do you update OTA?

Many of us only have one phone, and don't have a separate development device. It's never been a recommended practice to run beta software on your primary device.

"Seems to be as stable" is a poor standard to use - it "seems" like I can drive around without a seatbelt on and nothing ever happens. So, it's perfectly fine to just not wear seatbelts, right? Right?

I know what beta means, and it's not "free sneak peak at something cool that's totally stable".

So I'll wait for the official non-beta release, thanks.
The public betas were/are always on my main iPhones: X, 11, 12, and now 13 Pro Max

I haven't updated using iTunes in perhaps a decade. Always OTA over WiFi, initiated from the device itself. I'm surprised to hear anyone still updates from iTunes.
I used to update OTA exclusively but have had some updates with issues that only were resolved by restoring. Although it was rare,(not saying it's less reliable) I've never had that happen since switching back to updating through iTunes/Finder..

I frequently do (and in fact just did). Not sure if I'm right or not, but like the idea that it downloads the full iOS and installs it instead of just incremental patches. I will sometimes install a small update like this one OTA, but I pretty much always do the yearly updates and the major mid year updates with iTunes. I have the time, so why not?

Still no love from Apple for those of us still on iOS 14.

Haven't seen any update for iOS 14 since October 2021.

Apple really wants the rest of us to get on the CSAM train. :(
I’m afraid we’ll start seeing apps requiring iOS 15 soon forcing us to update.

Could you share what items you lost? I am still on iOS 14 as I generally wait until August to update to the next full version. iOS 14 works perfectly for my needs.
Since updating to iOS 15 in the past month I’m having cellular data issues where I have to keep toggling airplane mode to restore data. Never had that problem with iOS 14.
Also long pressing on notifications to expand them there’s no close (x) option anymore. Try it on iOS 14. You’ll see a close option. iOS 15 it doesn’t.
I’m now having trouble updating apps in iOS 15.6.1 press update and it just returns to update app again so they broke something.
The bottom safari url bar still acts weird in privacy mode with scrolling thru favorites. I put it back to the top and it’s ok.
Still having trouble searching old iMessages. It finds the results but when you tap it it shows most recent messages. But iOS 14 had that problem.

iOS 15 gives you a few new emojis and Memojis options.
And now in Wallet when you pay using Apple Pay in iOS 14 when you choose another payment card you would have to press the back button to complete the purchase. In iOS 15 it automatically returns now so that one less step.
iOS 15 gives you more than one “do not disturb” mode.
There’s a few more apps available now on iOS 15 including Netflix gaming apps.

iPhone storage won’t calculate now with update. Will check later.
Okay working now.

Can’t update some apps with this update.

Update: had to offload apps to get them to update. Still having trouble updating some additional apps without offloading them. What a pile of poop.

Do you happen to have AT&T as your provider?

I’ve actually been yolo’ing the dev beta on my main device for years. Yes I know I’m a madman. But I like my life on the bleeding edge. 😈

I do backup often, though, especially before each update.

I do. Although until the last iTunes update it was a PITA because I’d always get the 4000 error and would have to disable Touch ID to update. With that fixed, I’m back to doing iTunes upgrades exclusively.

iOS 15.6 had several beta and 2 RC but is still not perfect? Now there's iOS 15.6.1

I was hoping like iOS 15.5 it would go to iOS 15.6 then iOS 15.7

I wonder if apple will support this version of iOS for a while as some devices namely the 6S and 7 are not getting the next iOS? So it might be the last general update but not the last last update

I’ve been running iOS 16 PB on a secondary device for a month, no problems. Just took the leap with my main device. So far so good.

Not even attempting Ventura PB on my MBP. On my secondary Mac it is buggy as can be.

If you're ever expecting any software to be perfect... I've got some shocking news for you.
Sometimes it can be. I’ve written perfect software myself that has a faultless operational record with 100% uptime (embedded systems written in FORTH)! But with something as complex as iOS, it’s almost guaranteed that it’s riddled with bugs forever and a day.

Case in point, yesterday I thought I might delete loads of messages from the Messages app to tidy up my phone. I really don’t need hundreds of messages from certain people. So, press & hold the first message, choose More… then tick multiple messages and hit the delete button. Several times when I did this for a large batch of messages, say more than 75, the delete operation caused the Messages app to go poof and restart without deleting. Not the most important bug in the world, but they are always lurking ready to catch you out.
