this update 16.02 broke voice control. i spoke with apple about it but they basically told me with a beta i take my chances. i found a reddit forum where it was mentioned so i submitted an official feedback report on it. luckily i had only started using voice control a few days ago so i could use the camera without touching the phone and i was sure i was the one who broke it. hopefully they'll fix it on the next release. /guy

Why wouldn’t it be a thing? Home automation devices have been growing every year. It’s not something that will go away.
Apple is such a bit player in that market. And don't they force you to have either a Homepod or an iPad to devote as the controller?

I mean all the devices work on both Alexa and Google also. You can use anything for the devices that HomeKit also uses.
HomeKit is just a central point for those devices. It’s not needed I could use the apps for the devices each but 40+ lights and Devices are nice having in one app.
it’s the same thing with the other home devices. They all have their main app that controls all the things.

I use Alexa, it works without having to have a device to act as the hub.

I was referring to this:

"The Home app can do even more with the help of your HomePod mini or Apple TV. Either one can be set up as a smart home hub, giving you access to your home while you’re away and letting you automate all of your home’s smart accessories. And your HomePod mini or Apple TV hub is also an essential building block for Matter — the new smart home industry standard that will be compatible with more accessories, and even connect them across platforms."

I'm not about to waste money on a HomePod or an ATV.

Coming home works , leaving home doesn’t work for me & it disappears in control center. Looking forward to seeing if it’s fixed
My Apple Watch (Siri) lost control of about 50% of my home devices, iPhone (Siri) can still control them all.
