I have automatic updates turned on.

"Download iOS Updates," "Install iOS Updates," and "Security Responses & System Files" are all toggled on.

I charge my phone — and keep it connected to wifi — all night every night, so it's not like there isn't ample opportunity for my OS to update automatically.

And yet, my iPhone 14 Pro is still on iOS 16.1.1.

It didn't automatically update to iOS 16.1.2 (released 54 days ago) or 16.2 (released 41 days ago) by the time 16.3 was released today.

When I go to Software Update, in the Settings app, it always shows the latest version, and gives me the option to "Download and Install" — but I'd rather let automatic updates update my OS automatically (because I'm not comfortable being an early adopter, and I'd rather not have to think about it), as long as automatic updates are working as designed.

I understand that Apple rolls out automatic updates, often a number of weeks after they're released, but it seems weird to me that my iPhone hasn't updated its OS in more than 54 days.

Is this normal, or does my iPhone seem to be suffering from a bug?

What's been the experience of other people who have automatic updates turned on, since the release of 16.1.2?
Have you checked whether there is a beta profile installed or not?

That is normal behavior. Apple does a slow roll-out to people with updates turned on. That way, if there is a problem with an update, it doesn't affect as many people.
I know about slow-rolling, but 54 days seems excessive, no?

I mean, you would expect it to update me to the latest version before the next version is released, wouldn't you?

I'm still on 16.1.1.

Should I expect it to update me to 16.3 a few weeks from now, and just skip over 16.1.2 and 16.2?

That doesn't sound right, does it?

I have a friend who does the same thing with automatic updates. Yesterday morning her iPhone just updated to 16.2.

I am not sure about the SOS Emergency tweak, most of the time you probably do have the time or chance to press these teo buttons during an emergency, like say a crash?

I think it should allow you to confirm or cancel the emergency with other methods, like voice input.

For as far back as I can remember, my wife’s phone never auto updates anything. IOS or apps. Never, ever.

Exactly. Not sure if obvious but my original post i forgot the word NOT. What should be that the emergency tweak might be soing more harm then good, as in some emergency situations you do NOT have the chance to press these two buttons, like say a crash. Original post corrected.

On both our iPhones and both our iPads not one of those devices has ever automatically updated anything…not the OS, not any apps, nothing. And we too have all the settings set to auto update. On the other hand, our AppleTVs actually do update automatically and totally behind the scenes. I wonder why the more mobile devices don’t.

Really hoping this fixes gapless playback in Apple Music. It was bad enough when it was the songs on the service, but now it’s affecting the CDs I ripped as well. Gapless playback was something they had figured out with the iPod around 2007; hard to believe we’re dealing with buggy playback in 2023.

It appears that gapless playback was fixed for ripped CDs in 16.3. I only tested a few tracks/titles, and I haven’t yet had the opportunity to try this with any streaming titles/tracks from Apple Music, so your mileage may vary. But there is cause for cautious optimism here…

Hey Apple, what about the intermittent wifi disconnects ??? I can remember when installing an ios update was actually something users looked forwarded to doing without fear that something else would break. What the hell has happened to the ios team, they've gotten incompetent.

Gapless playback via streaming Apple Music etc. has been fixed with 16.3.

After updating to iOS 16.3 my Apple hdmi adaptor started working again for Peacock, Hulu, and Paramont apps but no joy yet for Disney app. Still getting HDCP playback issues. So maybe Apple addressed this error?
Searched the release notes but nothing about hdmi or hdcp for iOS 16.3

Hilarious that Apple broke loads of people’s setups, pulled the upgrade and now just zero mention of any of it. No fix. Nothing.

This is how I expect a company like Eufy to behave, not a Trillion dollar tech giant.
I believe they’re a (ha) trillionaire due to price, not because of goodness nor transparency.

Please prove me wrong!
