The one thing I want from Apple more than AR, VR, MR, iCar, and AirPower:

Fix the damn HomeKit disaster! My Philips Hue motion sensors are not working at all.
True.
I get like 35 notifications a day that my alarms have been armed/disarmed, enough though their status didn't change and nothing triggered an automation.
Constantly:
"Your front door alarm has been armed"
"Your front door alarm has been armed"
"Your front door alarm has been armed"
"Your front door alarm has been armed"
...
Yessss, I know.....
It's super annoying.

16.3 finally fixes Lightning to HDMI output that was broken in certain streaming apps since 16.0.

In an age where these devices allow me to empty my pockets more and more, it’s rather strange to be encouraged to add 1, even though small, thing back into it. In any event, I do like the potential security keys have, though waiting for a USB C iPhone seems like a requirement to not need multiple keys on you at any given time.
No need for a USB C iPhone or multiple keys, Yubikey has keys with USB C and Lightning or USB C and NFC (iPhones 11 and later needed to read NFC).

I'm just going to wait until tomorrow to make sure there's no major issue. Live and learn.
I think it does this automatically if you have automatic updates on. I have friends with automatic updates turned on and they don’t get them on day one. I know Microsoft Windows does something similar with updates. If you manually check for updates, they call you a “seeker” and they give you updates sooner than if you let them download and install automatically.

Really hoping this fixes gapless playback in Apple Music. It was bad enough when it was the songs on the service, but now it’s affecting the CDs I ripped as well. Gapless playback was something they had figured out with the iPod around 2007; hard to believe we’re dealing with buggy playback in 2023.

I guess sensors don’t get activated on HomePod mini until the software update arrives on it with release of HomePod second gen, unless you turn on beta updates.

Anyone else weary of updating their OGs, now that Apple has a NG available to compare and push us towards. Apple wouldn't hobble the OGs just to make the NGs sound better, would they!?! LOL!

The first thing I've noticed after the update was that the wallpaper on my iPad Pro has changed from a super crispy photo into a blurred low res version of itself. After playing around a bit, turned out the culprit was the "Dark Appearance Dims Wallpaper" option in system settings. Not only it darkened the image, but also significantly reduced its resolution. Compare the attached screenshots.

I guess this is what happens when iPhone and iPad have completely different wallpaper-related codebase.

I hope this fixes issues introduced with previous updates and doesn’t break anything else.
  • iOS 16.0 was solid for me.
  • iOS 16.1 broke setting the Sleep focus from automations.
  • Then iOS 16.2 broke the Fitness focus mode automatically turning on when starting a workout.

Im still on ios15 for my iphone X. Has anyone been running ios16 on theirs and how has everything been?

That depends of the service, some of them present a optional send a code as SMS or Email.
Once you add security keys to your Apple Account, it only works with your security keys.
I'm well aware that other services are offering it. I was wondering specifically about Apple though.

I have updated to iOS 16.3 in the meantime and they have a blurb saying that it will no longer be possible to log in to iCloud for Windows and older devices that can't be updated to 16.3 (or the equivalent MacOS update). So I guess the answer to my question is "no". It does say that you can somehow log in to an Apple TV or Homepod via an iPhone or iPad running 16.3 though.

Yes older devices without 16.3/16.2 needs to be thrown out of the Account.
