This problem occurs with all new iPhones in the upgrade order from base OS to iOS 17. My son bought a new iPhone 14 Pro Max with 16 installed and it hung after the upgrade to 17 and the migration from his old phone. It rendered the new phone inoperable on cellular.

Hope this clears up the issue discussed with Apple tech support today, when someone calls my wife or I, the voice message goes to both iphones. We have same apple ID account and same cell provider and obviously different phone numbers. Have had same Apple ID for 8 years and upgraded/transferred to many new iPhones during that time with no issues of voice messages going to phone called. Apple tech admitted issue and would be corrected in next update. Hope this corrects this issue
Better be on your best behavior until this is fixed.

Apple ID's are designed to be used by one individual - I'm surprised it's worked so well for you so far! With the sharing options available, there's really no reason to be sharing a single Apple ID.

According to Apple's release notes, iOS 17.0.2 fixes an issue that could prevent transferring data directly from another iPhone during setup, an issue that affected the iPhone 15 models.
That is one of the worst iPhone bugs I have ever heard about. And I've been using iPhones ever since the first model that was released in 2007. Tim Cook really doesn't care about software quality.

Thanks all you cutting edge upgraders finding the bugs.

Sticking to my lesson learned years ago of wait to upgrade 2-3 months after a new ios release.

Exactly this. I learnt my lesson back in the days of iPhone8+. Since then, I never upgrade my phone or IOS until at least January/February. By then, most bugs and and/or manufacturing discrepancies have been either discovered, fixed or ironed out. I've not had a problem since adopting this annual update/upgrade approach.

All those negative reports about battery and performance...
Think about what you do with your phone. Is it really necessary to look at it for 12 hours a day? I hardly use 20% of battery during the day.
About performance: just did a Geekbench 6 and it performs better than the average 15 Pro.

what i don't get is why was 17.0.2 released only on iphone 15's last week only to be released to all other devices a week later? what is the reason it was limited to iphone 15 hardware only for a week?

when it happened it seemed that 17.0.2 had iphone15-specific code in it, which is fine, and any future hw-wide releases would be versioned 17.0.3+. why bring 17.0.2 to older hw a week later like this?
Yeah, that’s a strange one. I don’t recall Apple ever staggering the release of the same firmware for different generations. I’m still on 16.6.1 with both my 12 Pro and 14 Pro (not bothering to go to 16.7). I’ll wait until a few days after 17.1 is released, maybe 17.2 if I keep reading about serious bugs. I just updated my 3rd generation Apple TV 4K to iOS 17 which is the only Apple device I feel comfortable upgrading to 17 at the moment.

Yep, Apple internal testing with the iPhone 15 should have caught it without needing beta testing outside of Apple.
As with every iOS bugs it doesn’t affect all iPhone 15.
why would people think it does??? :scratching head:

The updates and bug fixes are flying thick and fast.
Just So that a brand new iPhone can become a useable entity.... Hmmm! Is Apple working bug fixes and updates into a paid subscription service? 😉

Sorry, just could not resist.

Gotta hand it to Apple - as much as people were annoyed by having to update their 15 right out of the box, that phone to phone transfer process has come a long, long way! I was very impressed!

My other beef with iOS 17? The ringtones I saved to my phone disappeared.
I still have all my downloaded and self made ringtones on my 13PM after updating to iOS 17.

Maybe this means we actually will get new iPads by the end of the year. An update to help with transferring to a new iPad. Of course, people could still use this update to transfer to the other iPads on the market, but those wouldn’t be pre-loaded with iPadOS 17 yet.

I remember a bug in one of the iOS 9 updates that could only be resolved in an Apple store by internally disconnecting the battery - the phone had to be completely off to resolve the issue!

This is not even close to the worst, and could easily be avoided by the user updating the phone before transferring data - which realistically they should do anyway because the version of iOS on a new phone is likely to be not up to date and cause issues with devices that have been updated to the latest.
