Just went into photos, selected the 3 dashes then selected Clean Up which then did a download.
No, that's correct. Take a look at the Apple Intelligence icon in Settings. It has a 'BETA' label/badge on it.
This isn't unusual. Other features have been in beta capacity in the past when they were initially released. 'Messages in iCloud' and 'Live Captions' are a couple examples that come to mind.

I guess this is the first time I noticed features being released in a public update, but still beta capacity.
They'll be in beta for a long time. That's the Apple MO lately. I think iCloud might still be in beta
Apple software is all beta now! Fixing bugs is optional for them.
I was replying to a comment that it was maybe going to get pulled. Maybe you should put the reply in context instead of trying to be smart
So, is this small update (arounnd 256GB, I think) the final RC, or the final 18.1 release, or do you think there's another Apple 'SUPRISE' around the corner!

however, overnight something is different because I tried again and its there.

I thought we weren't getting any AI in the UK until 18.2
Not sure how cleanup is a separate thing we've got - although I guess its not 'language' dependant so perhaps makes sense.
I'm kinda glad we'll see Apple Intelligence in April (speaking of Europe), as I'd prefer to have most of the features ready by the time I start using the new functionalities.

You’re right, though- I don’t have to use Apple AI. Though at some point, people will need to “upgrade” (whatever that means in the context of Apple’s lately faltered updates).

It is the final 18.1 release since it was released to the public. They probably built an update towards the end of last week and didn't have time or felt the need to push another RC through the beta channel first, so they just went straight to the public with it. There will be no more surprises. If they need to do another update, it'll be 18.1.1. Keep in mind that 'RC' means 'Release Candidate'. There could be multiple RCs, as we seen with macOS last week. It also does not mean that the RC we get will be the same build that gets released to the public.
I wish there was a way to disable the garish new Siri animation. It’s just ghastly.
My guess is that they wanted to make it more prominent. So we know when Siri is active. I kinda like it.
I have Siri turned off on all of My devices. So I’ll never see it.
Yeah my brother is the same. He just doesn't see the utility. To each their own. I find it very useful for some things. It is especially useful on my watch.
After updating my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 18.1, during a call and its Dynamic Island animation, the clock on the upper corner doesn’t show up anymore.
This happens only in calls, in other circumstances it is like it used to.
Already tried hard resetting the iPhone.

in all seriousness tho…them bringing it upa yr out is fine, it’s saying Hey we’re workin on this stuff just give us a little more time…ppl say they’re late to the game…more like just in time for their own speed/lane.
a yr out drums up some excitement, too.
ummm took me about 20 mins then a few hours of downloading was done by night….i mean cmon it’s installing massive pieces built personally by Apple, so exciting. That photo erase feature is hot fuegos.
