Took an hour to get AI after sitting on waitlist. Absolutely love it! Can’t wait for December update.

The waitlist is one of the worst Apple UX experiences in a long time. They are heavily advertising this feature, and it just is not available in 18.1 without digging into settings. I consider myself somewhat plugged into what's going on in the Apple world and I had no idea this would be the case (I knew there was a waitlist for the prerelease OS builds, but that makes sense).

How would the average user even discover this?

As an aside been sitting on the waitlist for 2 hours now with no indication when it will even activate or become available. Even Ticketmaster has a better queuing system then Apple!

Is 18.1 gonna fix the bug where anybody who messages me on RCS doesn't trigger a badge number on the Messages app to indicate presence of a new message? Or is Apple still being childishly petty about having to capitulate? 🤔

I must be the only person here who is sad that we didn't receive any updates for the Maps' Detailed City Experience, i.e, that they didn't include more cities on that feature.

I don't think that's linked to any specific iOS update per se. They can just push it server-side.

Do the AI features like summarize and Smart Reply only work for messages and emails that arrive AFTER the update? I am only seeing them on some new messages and emails. Notifications I've only seen 1 summary so far

The image conversion bug hasn't been fixed. iPhone 14 Pro 48MP ProRAW to 48MP HEIC/JPG batch conversion converts only to 12MP files, instead of 48MP: Quick Actions>Convert Image>File Format: HEIF>Image Size: Original

How long does this “waitlist” take? I’ve read anywhere from 10 mins to 2 or more hours.

It’s ridiculous how it’s been advertised all along from launch with iOS 18.1 and US English and when you finish downloading the software, you have to join a waitlist to use features you’ve been promised

Mine took about 1 1/2 hours.

iOS 18.1 wasn't what I called a "minor" update. Just on my iPhone 16 Plus it was 1.76 GB download and install. Smaller updates are usually under 500 MB in size.
Well apple certanly called it a minor update, since they only bumped the minor version number, or is apple using another version numbering scheme, I've always read it as major.minor.patch

I dread the NFC being opened. I know there are good uses but I just know the big banks over here in Aus will inevitably force you to pay through their own app instead of Apple Pay and it’ll just become a less streamlined process just so they can make more money.

Love what? All it did is make my iPhone 16 Pro Max obviously slower, gave me a garish new Siri animation, and… umm… I can’t think of anything else.

I thought this was meant to make Photos smarter? For example, searching my photos for “blue car” showed me all kinds of rubbish unrelated to cars entirely. What on earth?

The only useful function seems to be the photo cleanup, with mixed results nonetheless.

Clean Up in photos is working on my 15 Pro Max, not sure about anything else.
How?

Its not going to work in the UK until we get Apple Intelligence.

Unless your language is set to American etc.... we dont even get clean up.

Mine was only 30 minutes
