So it wouldn't work with, say, a software button in iPhone 15 Pro camera app? It needs a physical button?
Apple says so.
One of those baffling things…
Although given that it just uses Google and GPT as its sources you really aren’t missing out on any functionality…

Ugh beautiful... Apple forgot to enable the Hearing test and Hearing device feature for Canada (already approved by Health Canada back in December). Now what, wait until 18.4? WTF!

Visual intelligence with Camera Control (All iPhone 16 models)
- Add an event to Calendar from a poster or flyer
- Easily identify plants and animals

How did we ever live without this? Seriously, VI has huge theoretical potential, but if these are the leading examples they can think of to sell it, it clearly isn't ready for anything other than tech demo.

Well I for one am interested to learn if my four-legged pet is a cat or a dog, or could it be a meerkat.

Is it just iOS 18.3 or is there an ipadOS 18.3 update as well?
iPadOS 18.3 (22D63), as reported by Realityck

Does anybody else have this problem since updating to iOS 18? I have an iPhone 14 Pro and wireless Carplay in my 2024 Jeep Rubicon. Before I updated to iOS 18, everything was great, flawless in fact with CarPlay. But now when using wireless carplay when the next song starts the display is not changing to that song. It still shows the previous song and album. The display is not changing with the songs.

I really hope 18.3 will fix this.

I know, I was being sarcastic. Apple has got to try and boost the sales of iPhone 16 somehow. They would propably never expect users to have, for example, Google Lens as a widget on their iPhone. Somehow it manages to use the camera without a physical button AND recognise more than dogs and roses.

So far Apple Intelligence has offered:

  • Updating stuff I've already written to sound more professional or friendly
  • Notification summaries that have been mostly disabled, because they weren't working
  • Emojis that I can invent, but don't add any value.
  • I can take pictures of plants or animals and get more information about it.
iOS 18 has been out since September and I have yet to see anything groundbreaking in anything coming out for being the flagship feature of the OS update. Feels like 12 months of development was completely for naught on the OSes.

That's one intelligent physical button then! How did they squeeze visual intelligence into it? It must be one of those things only Apple can do.
Interestingly as I was typing that, 9to5Mac reported that “ visual intelligence” might become a control center option in a future update, meaning it could come to older phones.
