I just got 17.7, not 18. WTH? I backed up my 14P to iTunes on my laptop and it said the phone was up to date. 17.7 says it's security fixes. Confused.
Ok had this issue on three devices and then went to do my ipad mini and under the "forced update to 17.7 was a little tiny window saying update to iOS 18. Bummer

Option for iOS 17.7 or 18 on my iPad Pro

  • 17.7 Polished, perfected (in Apple's eyes anyway) version of prior iOS software
  • 18.0 Alpha or Beta wide test to the masses.
Same with macOS 14.7 vs. 15 available today too. I'm updating to 14.7 right now but going to wait on 15.

I used to wait for .2 or .3 but now I wait for .4 or .5, so I look forward to trying the new versions around WWDC time. But thanks to all who adopt earlier and find the bugs that will hopefully be fixed- or at least less buggy (or some have user-discovered workarounds)- by then.

Of course, I'll hope that something magical happened so that THIS time it's practically perfect in every way in the .0 versions. I just won't bet on that.

I wonder what the new phones out of the box will come with 17.7 or 18? OK completed update on my ipad pro to 17.7 and the option for 18 was there. Ugh.

My iPadOS download just slowed to about 2 hours remaining! Anyone else's download times going up?

My understanding is moving my phone to iOS 18 will render my Watch Series 5 into just a watch. Since it can't be upgraded past WatchOS 10. Is that accurate?
What's led you to think this?

Your phone on iOS 18 will handle your watch just fine, only you won't be able to go past watchOS 9.

Other way around doesn't work though - to setup or update a watch to watchOS 10, the phone must be on iOS 18.

I only got iOS 17.7 and iPadOS 17.7? iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 was not offered.

I've had 18 on my 15Pro Max since last week with the RC. Updating my kid's iPhone 14 Pro Max now (he inherited my old 14Pro Max) and its saying its going to be 2 hours. Apple's servers are getting slammed.
