alright guys I'm running iOS 4.1 Beta 3.

Please post exactly what you would like me to test. I never seemed to experience this proximity issue.

I am using a Week 30 iPhone 4.

Cheers.

Since you're offering, you could see if they've quashed this bug: go to a contact, edit it, take a photo, and add it. Does the picture appear?

Edit: OK, it figures that right after I posted this, it started working normally for the first time. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

To all with the proximity sensor problem, why don't you put the display to sleep during a call? I do that all the time with my 3G even though I don't have the sensor issue.

Fall begin September 22nd and ends December 21.

"According to meteorologists, summer extends for the whole months of June, July and August in the northern hemisphere"

Besides, seasons are not standardized, so Steve's "fall" might start in August.

Edit:
Can't come soon enough.

You might want to discuss that with your doctor instead.

What are you talking about? (I mean I know exactly what you're talking about, but try doing this without headphones plugged in)

Never has on my iPhone 3G. Have used firmwares since 2.something, now on iOS 4.0.

Is it iPhone 4 behaviour to end the call when doing that?

It never did for neither of my iPhones either, but it does on iPhone 4. So presumably, it could be an iPhone 4 only thing. I wonder if it affects 3GS users the same way.

I just got off a 20 minute phone call to test the proximity after updating to Beta 3. My cheek hit the pad and dialed a friend in my contacts and put my caller on hold a few times while hitting the number pad. Proximity Sensor issue is not resolved. :(

You people with the proximity sensor issue, when your cheek accidentally presses buttons, is the screen off or on?

Useless?? Really? Have you tried using a bluetooth earpiece? I don't mean to minimize the problem, but if I were experiencing the problem (I am not), then I would use that as a workaround until a fix is available.

Unfortunately, this isn't a good workaround for a lot of people as the iPhone 4 also has problems in this area. My Jawbone Icon worked great on my 3G, but is useless on my iPhone 4. I use the earbuds for now. Hoping for a fix in 4.1.

Never happened for me either until the iPhone 4. And doesn't happen every time on the iPhone 4. Sometimes it will hang up and other times it turns the screen off.

So still no proximity fix?

Apple is Johnny on the spot to address their own concerns (PDF/jb).

Is this a serious question???

Of course the screen is on how the hell do think the buttons are pressed if the screen isnt on!

"You People" I take offense to that.

The reason that "US People" have this issue cause we can see the screen come on and off as its directly next to our ears. The screen comes on and off like 100 times in a 10 minute call.... I don't press a button on every call but i press a button at least 6 or 7 times out of every 10.

I HATE IT !!!

Check your baseband (Modem Firmware) version plz:

Settings -> General -> About -> *scroll to bottom*

My 3GS on 4.0.1 ends the call when locking the screen with no earbuds attached.

It locks the screen when I have earbuds attached, or if I have speakerphone on.

The realization is quickly hitting that the hardware is already to old.

Game Center support is removed for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users.

In one sense I'm a bit disappointed, but on the other hand not surprised at all. The 3G suffers from two big issues, to little CPU/GPU power and way to little RAM. Considering I'm currently running iOS 4 on a 3G I'm pretty much convinced that it is end of the line for this device. Even if Apple corrects the obvious bugs and performance issues it will still effectively be a slow device.

The iDevice RAM issue is one reason why I think an iPad update will happen sooner than many people here think. Apple obviously has the hardware to do so and it would make a substantial difference to running iOS 4.x on iPad.

I just hope 4.1 helps the 3G phones limp along a little faster. I love folders too much to downgrade. But I miss my phone working without lag.

Hope 4.1 fixes the email bugs. :( I hate having to manually check my phone for email. Fetch better work with the new update!

We will see IOS 4 releases for iPad when it is updated RAM wise.

...not impressed by 4.1 at all on 3G. Very interested in iOS4 for iPad already. A bit surprised there's not yet a beta of it available in the dev center. Fall isn't far off...

I honestly believe this is part of why there is a long wait for iOS on iPad. Apple knows optimal performance will require more RAM and thus want to have the hardware available to deliver that performance before debuting iOS 4 for the iPad.

By the way I don't mean to imply that IOS 4.x won't run on todays iPad just that it will have performance issues. In a sense it would be the difference between a 3GS and an iPhone 4.

My 3GS on 4.0.1 ends the call when locking the screen with no earbuds attached.

It locks the screen when I have earbuds attached, or if I have speakerphone on.

Exactly. This is the way it has operated for a long time. This is not new to iPhone 4 or 4.0.
