iPad 2 home button issue

I've been having problems with the home button on my iPhone, but figured it was just the hardware going bad. Perhaps not? Is this an issue many have been experiencing?

The trouble I experience is that sometimes when I double-click the home button, it takes me to the search screen rather than the multitasking bar. Other times when I double-click the home button (or even single-click it), it does nothing at all. Is that what you're also talking about?

And the biggest question of all — does this update fix it?

I've got the same issue with my iPad 2. It just start 3 days ago when I couldn't close osmos. I got the same symptoms with double click and the search screen. I'll have to try the update and see what happens.

This has been happening to me since 2 updates ago. I thought 4.3.2 would fix it and it did not. The home button has a mind of its own, really. My wife's 4 has been freezing (needing reboot) since 4.3. Whatever they did in that update is not good.

I won't update unless the benefits are great. Does anyone know of any other, better, changes than those stated which would make updating easier to swallow?

Getting tired of these incessant 660mb downloads.

But I finally figured out how Apple gets you to keep updating... they always promise a battery fix along with the other crap you really don't care about. By now I should be running for 30 days on a single charge.

Good one!

some people always fall for the placebo effect!

:)

Does it fix the mute button? maybe its just mine but it vibrates when I switch it both ways and some doesn't vibrate when switched to silent.

I had this issue and it turned out that the cable which connects the mute switch to the motherboard was loose. Take it to an apple store.

In other news, I was having much reduced battery life starting around 4.3. This update seems to have remedied that. Full day's test coming tomorrow!

Have the same issue, but no jailbreak.

//Update: still there unfortunately.

FAO: 3G users...

Phone Apple and ask to speak to a Customer Relations officer regarding your discontentment with the lack of support for the Location Tracking bug.

I had a positive conversation and I am waiting to hear back within 4 days... the more people who complain the more likely we are to get an official Apple policy response.

I personally would expect either a 4.2.2 update or a replacement 3GS.

I have updated, hope the battery life will last longer!
location-tracking controversy is evil~

Does the update require a resync to put music/videos/photos back on or can I use my work computer to just update the OS?

It's not a security hole.

That can be debated. It's a form of information leak that can be leveraged to generate personal information about you. It's a privacy concern but not a primary one. Just like an elevation exploit is a security concern, but not a primary one (as you already need some other access to the machine).

Privacy and security are so intertwined these days that you can't have privacy without security backing it up, thus you can argue any privacy hole is also a security hole.

Actually you do....otherwise you are just watching maps
Perhaps I worded that wrong.

You can turn the tracking service off and location based apps will still function. The data is just not logged.
It's used on demand and then dumped, not stored.
Any app that needs to know your location to provide you with location based data can do so without storing the data.

It's only when you have tracking services enabled that it stores the data.
And none of that data is sent to Google or the app developer unless you authorize it.

You don't need location services (tracking) turned on to use GPS functions. ;)
Somehow I knew someone would say that. I nearly edited my post when I realized it was incomplete, but I guess I'll put it here:

You need location services for many, many "cool" features of any smartphone. Finding restaurants, gas stations, etc. through countless apps. Not to mention all the social networking crap the kids are doing these days.

Not to mention finding yourself on the map.

Yep... I should never post from my phone. I tend to be too brief.
I believe I cleared up my comment though.
