I wonder if an iTunes update could help things by:

a) Not backing up the location data
b) Clearing the cache when an iOS device is synced

This could be applied to all iOS devices, including the discontinued iPhone and iPhone 3G without them needing a software update.

If the device makes certain assumptions about the cache, then a restore would break in this scenario without a device-side update, and you've made your backup scenario more complicated.

Not a bad idea, but there are long term consequences that Apple could not have found in a 1-2 week time span that it took to investigate, implement, test and release this patch.

I hate that the titles of posts are always gear towards the AT&T iPhone. The Verizon iPhone is much better! (Let the flaming begin!) :D

I'm still noticing laggy animations, especially when launching apps sometimes or sliding to unlock, when the screen animates into place. It stutters sometimes.

It's just not as smooth as it used to be. I tried restarting, closing apps, etc. :(

i haven't tried it with my iphone or touch, but on my ipad 2 (verizon) when listening to music and i press the home button to get out of the music app and then i go back into the music app by pressing the ipod button the song stops playing.

The result

What i have discovered with this update is that...in previous ios the location services would show all the apps that requested location....and then you could turn it off individually....but location services were always adding more apps to the list. Now when you turn off the location services..after some time the list is erased. So the cache is erased.

Another thing witch is very good for me....and is finally addressed is that now there are no notifications in apps and games that require internet connection...sending you to the settings....if you don't use your data plan there are no notifications...even in your sms app...witch may be the reason why I'm finally satisfied with this update and maybe i will not update my device any time soon...

the animations on my 3gs are very smooth...probably the smoothest after 4.3 debacle and battery is back to normal

Battery life... feedback from anyone who has upgraded? Better or the same?

My battery on 4.2.1 was phenomenal. Ever since I upgraded to 4.3 (then 4.3.1, then 4.3.2), it has been noticeably poor. Would love to hear if this actually made any improvements in this area.

improved UI

I just did a clean install of ios 4.3.3 and the lock screen and other animations are very smooth! Reminds me of 4.2.1 all over again. I also have restrictions enabled and have disabled itunes, youtube, facetime and ping (none of these features are necessary for me), but this update seems to improve UI animations...good luck!

I just registered to answer your question, as it's something that was buggin' me as well; the battery life problem i mean.

Ever since i upgraded to 4.3.2, battery life sucked. And while i did notice a bit of a decrease in battery time on 4.3.1, 4.3.2 straight sucked.

Now with 4.3.3, things do seem back to normal. I mean, i'm doind the exact same things with my phone (voice/sms/push exchange/a bit of web surfing/taking a few photos etc) and battery life is noticeably better. And i don't mean "placebo better", i mean REALLY better.

One thing is certain, i won't be upgrading anytime soon, unless ios 5 comes along with some major features.

Hope it answered you dilemma. :)

This new IOS is a joke!
The animations are laggy and the battery is worse than ever.
I wish I could back to 4.2.X without jail-breaking.... :(

Thats right iOS 4.3.x is a bad joke by Apple. It's the worst os version since the old 2.1

Animations are lagging all the time on a fresh new instalation, on a fresh new iPhone 4 (white).
Slide to unlock works always on second or third try. All in all, continue this way Apple and you're losing your loyal customer. Only thing which I cared about was smoothness of all apple idevices. If this is no longer the case, I can go to android, these are laggy too, but for cheaper price and with more possibilities.
Its sad. :(

FAO: 3G users...

Phone Apple and ask to speak to a Customer Relations officer regarding your discontentment with the lack of support for the Location Tracking bug.

I had a positive conversation and I am waiting to hear back within 4 days... the more people who complain the more likely we are to get an official Apple policy response.

I personally would expect either a 4.2.2 update or a replacement 3GS.

How has this turned out, did you get a 3GS? Anyone else?
