I didn't notice this until after installing 5.1.1 on my iPad 3 just now, but remember the nice animation you get when you split the keyboard on the iPad? I am no longer seeing the animation part and it just splits. Just curious if Apple got rid of this in 5.1 or did they remove it in 5.1.1?

Can anyone confirm that the bug is gone, which reactivates 3g on every restart of an iPhone 4S? I'm very annoyed to disable it every now and then.

I wonder if this fixes the ongoing sort order problem with manually managed itunes libraries. Ever since 5.0 my music player shows artists, albums and songs out of order. If you delete everything and re-add it, it sorts properly, but the second you remove or add something it goes all screwey again.
Like right now, looking at my artist list under P, it shows band names with:
P:
F
O
R:
O
G
P
S
P
P
K

Absolutely inexcusable that it hasnt been fixed so far. Check support forums, the problem is pretty widespread.

I just did went through iExplorer to fix that stupid Unable to Purchase bug today, and they finally fix it

Anyone notice any change in the battery indicator? My iPad was at 88% but after doing this update, it now reads at 99%? Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

Shame there's still nothing for the weak WiFi reception on the new iPad.

I found the opposite to be true on the iPad 3. I had weak WiFi on my WiFi only iPad 2, but the iPad 3 WiFI model I upgraded to is a big improvement. Where my iPad 2's signal would be low and even drop in some places my iPad 3's WiFi signal is strong. I'd say take your iPad back to Apple and exchange it.

I own 2 iPad 2's and 2 new iPad's and all 4 DO NOT have ANY problems with wifi. I'm starting to think it could be a network problem for you people.

I owned 2 previous iPads, 4 iPhones in total, a Macbook Pro, a MacBook Air and an iMac and DID NOT have ANY problems with WiFi. I use the latest Airport Extreme and am no idiot when it comes to networks. But if you are having no problems, I guess it must be in my head!

Its stupid AT&T. God only knows why they allow it on the 3GS and 4. None of their androids have the option either.

I can tell you why. AT&T is reducing its GSM capacity by way of re-farming GSM spectrum from enabling 3C and 4C deployments on UMTS which shall be supporting the HSPA/HSPA+ capacities. AT&T wants you to stay on 3G which is where they are increasing capacity. That is why they have gotten all the OEMS to have their latest devices only on 3G and on relatively new devices but in their latest software updates remove the option of toggling camping on 3G.

So it seems like iTunes Match have actually been improved in this release, even though they did not state it. As soon as I checked it out, it started loading all of the album art that has been missing since practically the beginning. We will see if it sticks.

Now if iTunes Match just stops randomly deleting music from my phone, that will be great.

The point is that he said he could now use "3G over EDGE". EDGE is 2G.

Yeah, but, who cares?

EDGE is called EDGE and is denoted by an E, not "2G," so pointing out that technically EDGE is "2G" when nobody asks and it isn't even relevant to the conversation is stupid and pointless.

Except, why doesn't the iDevice tell you when an OS update is available?

I am pretty sure they do eventually. My iPhone 4S and iPad 3 it didn't tell me 5.1.1 was available, but I think if we waited long enough it would have. iOS did tell me about a previous 5.x update on one of my iDevices in the past. It could be that the devices are only set to check for new updates periodically on their own and at least mine didn't get the chance to check before I forced it to check. They may even stagger the notifications so that everyone doesn't jump on the update at once.

Apple makes headlines with software update

wait what? ios 5.1.1 is a top 10 google news story?

I'll admin im a fanboy but...I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Isnt the open/close animation a bit faster? I mean when Im going into settings it looks like they make it a bit faster to open/close..

Could any1 try to compare it with iOS 5.1 ? I just did update on both devices so Im out of this :)

Million dollar question:

Makes you wonder where people's priorities are these days :)

I gave up on iTunes Match. I was beta testing it and then bought it, thought it was gonna improve. Ha! Songs skip, don't play, have been wrongly tagged (needed to use SongSergeant to fix my tracks), and my smart playlists are all FUBAR'ed. The only good it served was upgrading lower than 256kbps tracks. On my 4, 4S and iPad it never worked. Even turned it off of all my devices/Mac's, deleted the tracks manually from my devices, turned in on again and still a hot mess. Shame.

I'm not having any of that on my iTunes Match, works perfectly.

It does, mine gave me a notification with the red notification bubble on settings... it's not the second it's out, but you do get it, i presume they stagger the notifications so the servers don't get hammered by the whole world at once....

Can't wait until they allow us to download these updates over 3G... It's not really OTA until they do.

Thats 50+ MB file that can count against someone with a data cap. Almost everyone is in a wifi spot and it puts less strain on the networks.
