Be sure to backup your devices using iTunes 10.5 beta 4 or through iCloud backup prior to installing iOS 5 beta 5. After installing iOS 5 beta 5, you can restore your device using either iTunes 10.5 beta 5 or through your iCloud backup.

I've got the beta running on my iPod Touch for development purposes, but I really want it on my iPhone!

Also, iTunes 10.5 beta 5 seems to have screwed up Mission Control in Lion. Apps aren't visible and the wallpaper is stuck with linen cloth. =/

I'm not 100% sure if this is new language or not, but I don't recall seeing this before:

This version of iOS is intended only for installation on development devices registered with Apple's Developer Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state, which could necessitate an out of warranty repair.

I agree what's the point of an OTA update if I still have to restore my device?

It's a beta. The only officially supported OTA updated with be starting with future versions of iOS 5.0 onward. They don't really care about bugs that only arise from 5.0 beta 4 -> 5.0 beta 5.

on iphone OTA. Software update showed up on the first go but on ipad still says iOS 5 is update not showing the update on OTA - ipad 1

If you OTA update it, its just like the previous beta 4 update. 3 devices updated to beta 5 OTA and 0 issues or loss of data. And yes I have seen the release notes saying to erase everything, but I had no probs.

I tried to do it without erasing content and it just gave me the message <1 min remaining, but isn't downloading. Turned the phone off and will try again, perhaps after erasing all the content. I've been wifi syncing all day, so I should have a backup. But I wonder if I should download iTunes beta5 first?

I didn't erase all content either and I got the <1 min thing for about 5 minutes but then it rebooted and all was fine. And I was able to connect and sync a new contact with Beta 4 Itunes with no problem.

What BGR posted is not a change log, it is a list of known bugs. Apple does not prepare change logs for beta releases.

as usual apple haven't updated icloud to show new windows iTunes but if you know the link for beta 4 just replace end with bundleID=20911

Oh darn. I turned the phone back on and now I'm just getting "Checking for Updates" under the Software Update.

Is it possible that my phone partially installed the software. Because that would suck haha.

Can we do this over 3G and Wifi?

Why do you have to erase all your settings? I just did an OTA update without erasing settings, and everything works normally with just downloading and installing beta 5 from my phone.

i putted the ios 5 beta 5 and is much smoother on my device.im wondering if it will be Beta 6

Damn I think I created a real problem for myself. Still refuses to find the software update after turning the phone back on. It is under 50% power, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it whatsoever. Wifi connection seems fine.
