Do you need 10.7.2 installed to update the iPad 2 to 5.0?

This internal error is annoying. I can't update (even after putting in airplane mode).

I guess I should have downloaded 10.7.2 first.

Successfully downloaded iOS 5. My iTunes asks me to update but I get the following message. "The iPhone could not be restored. An internal error occurred." What the?!

I've got the same error popping up! How frustrating :(

I upgraded to 10.7.2 first and got the error initially (while in airplane mode). I then restarted, went out of airplane mode and it worked. There is hope...

Did you check your host file? Even if you don't jb, your host file may not be pointing to apple.
I used tiny umbrella to point to apple. Voila! Problem solved.
I keep getting:

'The iPad "name" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3200).'

Any advice :(?

Update to iPad1 Serious PITA!

I had to disconnect everything from my MBP to get one of our iPad 1's to update. One worked fine, the iPad 2 was fine. But even through the Moshi hub the update failed.

If you're having multiple "won't restore failures" disconnect all except the iPad and try.

Worked for me.

my ipad 1 saying that 4.2 is the most up to date software available. Anyone else getting this?

I downloaded the iTunes update last night. Do we need to update Lion before doing iOS5 or can I just update my phone first? I can't wait until 5:00 when I get off work! :apple:

I do have one question. I went to the app store on my phone at lunch and tried to update some apps. I got an error message that the app wasn't compatible with my phone. I REALLY hope that it said that because it wasn't compatible with iOS 4 and NOT because it's only compatible with the 4S! I can't even tell which app it is because there are 8 to be updated. Bummer.

Disconnect EVERYTHING!

Had a he!! of a time (3 attempts) with an iPad1 until I disconnected everything except the iPad from my MBP.

Working fine now.

Also getting the "cannot be restored" error after downloading. I guess it's the servers getting hammered, ugh. :(

I can't update the iPhone because it keeps saying 'Try Another Apple ID' after signing in then entering in my email. Any one know how to get around this?

wow... well I got my iPhone updated but updating Lion Recovery and Lion now says 203 hours!!:D:D

the servers are getting SLAMMMMMMMMED

Man, I hope this damn thing put all my music back on my iPod. I manually manage my music and right now, its doing the restore and I am not seeing my music. Not happy, will wait and see.

iPhone 4 / 32 GB upgrade to iOS 5 failed right after it took the backup.

The iPhone USB cable is plugged directly into the USB port on the front of my Mac Pro.

I had already taken the precaution of (-) closing all iPhone apps, restarting the iPhone, backing it up manually, and THEN starting the upgrade.

I had already applied all software updates for my Mac OS X Lion system and ran a Disk Utility "Repair Permissions" and restarted the Mac before the attempt to upgrade the iPhone.

It still bombed, even with all those precautions.

I am having precisely the same issue trying to upgrade my iPad 2 / 64 GB under the same scenario + precautions.

My other half is having the same problem with the same scenario / same type of phone, same procedures.

#FAIL

Everything is up to date so after the software is extracted I get a
Internal error occurred, WTF does that mean ?
