Foxy,

I set up an Apple ID for my wife so that you can use FaceTime. I am sure that she will be able to use that to set up iCloud account. You may want to try that for your husband as well.

Thanks David. It is just an Apple ID? How do I set one up Can she purchase Apps etc from that ID, or does she have to revert to your main account for that? I don't mind if he has to, as that won't be a problem I just need to know.

Also I'm fairly new to Apple products (well about 3 years) but I never really got into all these other stuff, and I'm the computer person in our family so hubby relies on me.

Thanks in advance.

So far...very headache inducing.

Trying to finish the backup sync with my iPad has failed four times. For some odd reason it has an unspecified (but larger than whatever space is left on my iPad) amount of "other" category items trying to sync - but nothing appears to be chosen on iTunes out of the ordinary.

None of my albums have artwork

Most of my books have lost their artwork

New Yorker app doesn't work

Any email that was on my iPad has gone POOF...and as I needed some things on it to take with me to work...this is irksome.

So all in all...not too impressed

So I had an older Apple ID that was made before it was required to be an email address, when I installed iOS5 and the iCloud thing came up, it wanted me to "update" my ID so I had to create an entirely new gmail address just to do it.

That is entirely not the move I expected Apple to make, they preach about making things easier but this iCloud/Apple ID clusterfook is a debacle. I shouldn't have to create a whole new email when my original ID worked for everything else.

So I did that, and the iCloud offers its own email service which again, requires you to make even ANOTHER account. And then the fact you can't "merge" your Apple ID to your newly created @me email address is even more ridiculous.

I know I'm not the only one to have this problem, but I just wish this whole thing had that magic Apple touch but it doesn't. Everything with this update has been a hassle.

Woot! My phone is on it's way from Ft Worth to Ohio via FedEx. I should be getting it tomorrow! Ya baby!! :D:apple::D

Foxy -

I just wanted to add that we have both email addresses associated with our two Apple IDs on an iPad2. When my wife has her email turned on and mine off, it activates her FaceTime, etc. And, vice versa. I would assume that the same would apply to iCloud accounts.

It's already installed, it looks the same. Go to Settings - Messages to change your preferences.
Thanks David. It's what I feared. We already had issues setting up my Apple ID because of our location... setting up an additional ID it seems would be having to got that route again. I will read some more but I don't think this will work for us.

Thanks anyway

It will only show NEW notifications. Make sure you have received new email, messages, etc. when in the locked screen.

888 megabytes. Such a small number and such a long long time to download.

Started at 5:30 pm PDT and it finished at 10:30 pm for the iMac. Then started the iPad. Went to bed at 11:00. iPhone was updated quickly this morning.

Didn't even start the MBP. Tonite.

Think there are many sleep deprived Apple users today. When I installed Final Cut Pro, the version before X, installing all the disks into the night and the early morning hours the next day.

Apple caused a tremor in the internet yesterday. Comcast must have felt it.

my install wasn't exactly smooth, though everything worked out in the end. the download took a long time, but not as long as others have reported. my iPhone did go through multiple restores in the process of updating to iOS 5. but i just let it do its thing and when all was said and done, i have iOS 5 running smoothly. interestingly enough, i somehow gained at least 1/2 a gig of free space compared to my iOS 4 version.
i had the same Apple ID issue as some others have mentioned - i had an older account before they required you to use an email address. but it really wasn't any trouble to just update my account to my email address already on file.
i did create a new .me address for iCloud Mail, but i'm not sure if i'll use it or not. email will count against your 5GB and since my current email has been working fine with both my iPhone and my iMac mail, i don't see any benefit to switching over.

I have new notifications but it ony show the last one...in the old way... :(
I cant see the notification center in the lock screen

anyone?

its integrated with your normal sms message. . the speech bubble comes up as blue instead of green when its going through the iMessage system.

phone ringing?

I'm not sure how this notification system works. But I feel like upgrading to it because I just missed 6 calls this morning. Didn't even hear the phone ring. I was still asleep. However, I was woken up by one of the numbers that had been calling me all morning. The ring was on..full blast...as usual but didn't notice all the missed phone calls. iOS5 help with any of this?

I find that I notice the notifications more.
Because I am already into the routine of checking the notifications first thing in the morning rather than opening a plethora of apps.
I'd say it was pretty great as you can see everything at a glance so it might help.
