now I have to explain to my dad why the computer is telling him to update, why should he update, and what all of the new stuff are :(

I don't understand the uproar and distress...the servers are overloaded. Update sometime tomorrow. I promise it will be the same iOS 5. :D

Constant backing up after failing to verify is driving me NUTS

For gods sake this is ridiculous.
Every bloody time I get the verification error I have to back up my iPad AGAIN.
It takes 40 minutes to back up the damned thing and I'm on my 4th or 5th try in the last few hours. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!
Has anyone managed to update in the last 30 minutes?
Because I am slowly loosing the will to live over this...
First my BlackBerry decides it won't connect to the internet - for 3 days. Now one silly update (which i need for silly reasons) won't work either.
Why do my devices hate me???

finally after 6 hours, all updates: os x, iOS, move to iCloud, tv, iPhoto + photo stream, setting up wifi sync, documents from mac, text tones, find my mac (which i think is really, really cool) testing geo reminders, and adding a game center photo... is all DONE! lmk if i missed anything lol.

thanks :apple:

I kept getting the failure to restore while trying to update my iPad 1. I turned on Airplane mode and everything worked fine.

Ahhh... Because I leave to go out of town tomorrow and won't be back til next week, and I've been waiting for this update for months. I'll be damned if I'm going to wait for a whole week to update. I'm OCD and anal retentive. SO that's what my "uproar and distress" is about. It says I still have 16 hours for the download to complete.

I can understand that. I'm reading that the servers are down. In your case I do feel your pain.

In other news today, "BlackBerry outages spread to North America..."

Apple surges forward and RIM stumbles. Not a good time to look bad.

Ah...Instant gratification is a b*tch isn't it? :)

WOOOO
My complaint worked.
All verified and updating.

I take the rant partially back.

I understand the servers being slow, but here is my issue.

I updated to the new iTunes while my phone was plugged in, so it didn't prompt me to update the phone software when the newly updated iTunes opened. Instead I had to tell it to update manually, but there was no option to 'just download' so I had to click 'download and update' or whatever.

Will unplugging my phone mess up the download? I have to leave class soon and I had planned on being able to pause the download and resume it...

Haha although if these problems went on I saw the perfect headline on twitter.
"Apple and BlackBerry Crumble"

genius

Good question! I would like to know the answer to this as well. I've never had to do this but may have to this time.

so long as the update hasn't started to install then you are fine. If its still only downloading then disconnect away! i did. :)
