Is there any way to change back to full screen caller photos? Without jailbreak? Any apps or something? I can't believe they went with this new design..:/ They touted its attractiveness and usefulness on WWDC, and now seemingly without any reason they change to this ugly small circled picture. Seriously, how is this more useful or more aesthetically pleasing than it was in iOS 7?

Try Facetime - it's even worse because the three white and red circles on the bottom are incredibly distracting during a chat. I think the company is very confused design-wise.

Anybody notice the "rubber band effect" on the sliders in control center? Swipe them quickly to one side or the other and they will "bounce". Never heard anyone mention this.
Yup, it was introduced in one of the betas.

Yes it is heavy website however it shouldn't crash your browser. It could lag, take longer to load but not crash your browser ;)

I am not excusing it. I have seen a big difference in 7.1. Other sites that were previously crashing on me are loading fine now. I don't know why nin.com keeps crashing. I don't normally go there anyway, so that site doesn't matter to me.

While I thank you for the suggestion of enabling motion then manually turning off parallax on a per-background basis, no, that still doesn't address the absurd connection. The weather app is an app, not the OS. Reduce Motion doesn't turn off animation in games or GIFs on web pages or anything else cause that'd be silly. It should just affect app transitions, opening folders, desktop backgrounds.. you know, things which are part of the OS i.e. app-independent.

Also, while I can't say myself if app transitions are faster in 7.1 than they were previously, they're definitely still slower than motion-reduced transitions, at least on a 5C, especially the desktop fly-in after unlocking the phone.

Finally, this is an accessibility option. I don't get motion-sickness like some people do from those new OS transitions, but that is the main point of this feature. Was weather making people motion-sick? I really doubt it; it doesn't rapidly move your perspective to make you feel falling or flying or anything. It's just a slow, pretty animation.

Is it a big deal either way? Of course not. But it baffles me nonetheless. It's a completely pointless thing to have done.

Today I also learned that if you toggle Reduce Motion back on, your backgrounds revert to parallaxing regardless how you had them set. You must go assign them again after messing with that accessibility option if you want them to remain stationary.

I completely agree that Reduce Motion should be way more granular, and that behavior of Apple's Weather app should be unrelated. However, I'll suggest using the Yahoo weather app, which I feel is much like Apple's but way better, or Check the Weather which I love, or even using Forecast.io as a web app, which is fantastic IMHO. All of those are better options than Apple's included weather app.

Wow. Man, I kind of regret having already updated now. This is terrible. iOS is so ugly. It gets uglier and uglier. We can turn buttons back on (finally), but they're horrendous looking too. Why is Apple hardware so pretty but software so atrocious?

I got the iPhone 5 features web page to crash every single time just scrolling around and double tapping a few times.

Web pages reload constantly. Folks just go from one to another, if they try to do something in between forget it!
So this was better in iOS 7.0.x?

I personally can't stand the full screen pic and prefer the postage stamp.

i'm not sure but i would think for a little while longer. I wouldn't downgrade just because of that though, overall 7.1 is a great update.

yeah. i just upgraded my wife's 5 and i am keeping my 5s on 7.0.6 coz its jailbroken.

Caller ID

Same here. I don't use Google, so I had to go through icloud on my desktop to set caller ID photos just so they would appear small. It's less of a hassle for me now! :) I think I'll still do it this way just in case they decide to change it though

AirPlay problem with 7.1

I updated my iPad Air to 7.1 and Apple TV to 6.1. At first, I had an AirPlay problem with both normal AirPlay and mirroring.

A simple reboot of the iPad Air and the Apple TV seems to have fixed it.

Just FYI.

I can understand, but in iOS 7 there was a way to add pictures to be full screen, or be in the little circle. Why can't they make it optional? I realise that you can't please everyone, but it'd seem logical to add some optional switches. After it being praised on WWDC, I would expect them to either stick with it, or at least make it optional to have a full screen photo, not just completely get rid of it.

Very snappy on an iPad2.
I like the new phone call interface!
Downloaded but not yet tested on my iPad Air.

You still have to Hard Reset if the download for 7.06 was already available but NOT downloaded.

Almost ironic, I installed the update, started up the phone, opened music app and it crashed, and it did it again and again. Genius mixes are still not working on my devices(UK). Also I am not keen on the new male Siri voice, i preferred the old one.

is anyone else still mad that evasion jumped the gun on the jailbreak. they could have waited till now to release it and there would be a lot more happy people in the macworld.

TouchID improvements? I've yet to get TouchID to work at all in any reliable fashion.

Only improvement I'd love for iOS is getting real podcast support through the audio player back, so you don't have to use that terrible "Podcasts" app.

how much free space did you need to upgrade?

It's like in their effort to make ios in the car fit every single car by using text instead of buttons, they ****ed the lovely look of iPhone. What they should have done is had an ios that switched to car mode and phone mode. We aren't stupid people.

Next door handles to be replaced with text because someone at apple prefers to read their way round the world.

Bring back iButtons this doesn't work :)
