...wish I was a developer.....

I wish I wasn't... :D

My only dev-only devices are my old trusty 3GS and the simulator... And truth be told, my current project can be done with sim only and do final testing a bit later.

Still, I'm feeling the urge to install it on my 5...

I find it curious that people would update without reading the beta notes that Apple provide....risky!

There's a lot of things that don't work in an early release beta, for example you can forget tethering.

It states in the notes that the weather animated screen only work on iPhone 5 and the same for moving wallpaper.

Hmm I dont know guys I just opened the reminders and calendar app and I've got to say I really miss the old design. This one is super plain almost boring. I also wanted a new look but this design seems to be going in a whole different direction. Actually I thought the old way of design was great, just that it was getting stale and needed to be updated, not taken in a different direction. =/ This look lacks the polish that the old one had. It's almost as if the old one should be an update to this one rather than the other way around.

This is just an initial reaction of course I need to spend more time with it. My first positive initial reactions were "clean" and "consistent".

Betas being betas, I'm just wondering, how well is iOS 7 working for you? Is it in good enough order to function on a regular device, or is it still pretty rough around the edges?

On an iPhone 5 it is very responsive; everything works mostly as expected. There are a few hiccups with notification centre (for instance, flashing ad infinitum between me having no events scheduled for tomorrow and listing them). Also it appears to not be terribly kind to the battery, from my limited usage thus far.

For anyone who has the ios 7 beta, is it possible to toggle on/off the ability to auto update apps?

Does anybody know:

- If you can downgrade to iOS 6 from this beta?
- If you need your UDID registered with a developer account to install it? I remember last year, people were able to install it on any device.

Has anyone looked at this yet? As the poster above says, last year you could actually have the beta with no problem, as long as you used option-update instead of option-restore in iTunes and then selected the ipsw.

This update vs. restore avoided the initial setup screen / activation process and therefore there was no ping to Apple to check for UDID registration. Is this still the case?

Or, has anyone with a registered UDID used the update method? If so, when you did that did you still have to pass an activation screen?

Thanks!

Pretty sluggish on my iP4. I'll wait a few more beta's before installing on my 4s.

I just installed iOS 7

My first look at the OS, disappointing.

The Flat look does it NO good. The icons look like cheap 60's renditions as if I hacked it and put on a bad theme.

The buttons and options to click on are not as clear as the previous design.

It's way too WinPhone and Android looking.

It is a bit laggy too. I'll have to wait and see if that clears up after it's done installing apps.

I am really not happy with it. I think Forstall (minus the leather and stupid felt) did a better job.

Basically the UI looks all thin and ran together, just like WinPhone. I wish Jobs was still here.:(

The doc looks like an after thought. It was way nicer looking before.

I am confused here. As a designer you decide that you want the phone to look layered with depth and animated backgrounds. The icons & stuff move with your movements which gives it an almost 3D appearance. That's Great but, then they flatten the UI!??? It would look better with all the shinny icons and the elements of depth in the UI. It seems pointless to incorporate a visual element and at the same time take away the depth in the UI!

Ives "I have an Idea"

Tim "Yes?"

Ives "Lets incorporate a 3D feel and flatten it!"

Tim "Makes total sense! Lets do it!"

Consumers "WTF?"

What are the circles next to AT&T on the top supposed to represent? Is that supposed to be what the new cell signal is supposed to look like?

yup.

i didn't understand why would these circle represent strength better, but i realize why. the new ui the top banner where time/icons are located is a lot thinner to give more screen real estate. the old "bar" would take too much of a vertical space. also, the "bar" didn't show "out of how many." if you saw 2 bars, it didn't really convey "2 out of 5" or "2 out of 4/6". i think that might be why john decided this.

Yet Sir Jony has kicked it out of the park - iOS 7 looks gorgeous.
Many aspects of it looks very nice, but I would not say "kicked it out of the park". Flat icons over the light background texture looks quite "cheap" and in some spots it is hard to tell where the background ends and where the icon starts. I was left speechless when I saw Safari icon. Oh my... Looks an imitation icon intended for use on a knock off phone. Groundwork for the low cost iPhone? :)
