I can't download the update. iTunes says 8.0 is latest version and OTA says unable to check for update.

I'm impressed. I don't think Apple has shipped a x.0.1 release so quickly after the initial release.

I guess I'm a bit more cynical...shouldn't these things have been in the original 8.0 release? Why did the process break down so badly that made it necessary to release an update so soon after a major release?

Apple probably knew about these issues ahead of time - hence the quick update. Wasn't there a story saying they were working on 8.1 months ago?

Because things happen. Apple isn't updating their software every 3 years like they used to do on the Mac. Now they're doing yearly updates to every major product line.

That's the trade off you get. Bugs happen and then they get fixed.

Keep 'em coming Apple

You have about a dozen patches to go before you bring iOS 8 back on pair with iOS 7 for performance at least.

Why would it? They haven't listed it as a fix, have they?

To be fair, they never would list this and there are usually plenty of fixes not listed in the release notes.

Apple is not a fan of admitting that there was problem in the first place.
