Long-time Apple user - this is my first iPhone glitch. I downloaded the update again and reinstalled, but no success: can't use phone or messages :(

Did you just update via iTunes or actually perform a restore? If the latter, maybe its time to try DFU restore. Or maybe call your carrier and verify they have you activated or maybe they can reactivate that device.

If you think its really iOS 8.1.2 you can downgrade to 8.1.1 and see if it comes back.

I just wish you could delete ringtones without iTunes! I haven't had to plug my iPhone into iTunes in years but, I guess it is the only way to delete ringtones...which is stupid IMO.

Any speed vantage in iPhone 4S or in iPad 4?

Well, I noticed a few things:
- my alarm-clock in the tomorrow-section of the notification-center was gone. Had to deactivate and reactivate the alarm it to get it back. Works since.
- my third party keyboard (SwiftKey) seems to load faster. Until now it varied between instantly and up to 6 seconds to pop-up. The longest now was 3 seconds.
- battery-life seems normal. Lost 1 % over night – but sometimes that number is up to 6 %. I guess that is not representative.
- animations seem a bit smoother all around.
- AppStore feels a bit faster as well, but still not as fast as it was before.

All in all I can't complain about 8.1.2. It sure is the fastest iOS 8-version my iPhone 4s has ever seen.
Given it is still not as fast as iOS 7 (I guess about 90 % as fast). But then, iOS 7 was not as fast as iOS 6 (let's say about 90 % as fast as well in the end). And if I see an iPhone 4 or 4s in the wild nowadays that is still on iOS 6, I'm amazed at how fast it really is. Didn't feel that way back then.

If I take a look at an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus at the retailer's, iOS 8 still doesn't feel as fast as iOS 6 used to be. Seems Apple is set to deccelerate our lives. And since there's nothing I can do … there's nothing I can do about it.

Yes. I've seen one iPhone 4 on iOS 6. It almost made me cry for I missed the old UI so much and it runs so smooth. And I hate the effect that home screen moves a little bit when the phone is tilted. Yes I know I can't turn on "reduce motion" in settings but I want keep the animation. I don't know how this so called home screen "Parallax" feature helps other iPhone users. For me it only serve the purpose of using more battery and letting people know "oh, Apple is capable of making the home screen seem unattached to its background".

I did the update yesterday on my iPhone 5s, and now all my custom ringtones are gone. It didn't show up until 20 minutes ago when my wife texted me- the ringtone was a sound I'd never heard. I can't find the sound files anywhere on my phone- hopefully they are somewhere on my iMac at home.

8.1.2 doesn't seem to have any security fixes.

It might just be the ringtone bug.

There is a noticeable standby battery usage improvement on my iPhone 6 which was on 8.1.1.

Curious is this now on par with iOS 8.1? I saw a noticeable drop in stdby moving to 8.1.1. After trying various restores/installs and such restored back to 8.1 and battery life came back. Hesitant to update to 8.1.2 now since I can no longer go back to 8.1. But would like the other fixes 8.1.1 brought.

I wish they would fix the favorites in Safari on the iPad, it needs to close automatically instead of me always having to go back and close it after a web page has been loaded. And quit moving the favorites. I was so used to it on the right and they moved it to the left.

Is me voicing my opinion a real problem for you?

An opinion is quite different from an issue.... Especially if is a wrong opinion like your (it's not a single fix).

----------

Ah, yes. The typical Apple forum post where the person claims to never had a single issue and declares that anyone that does MUST be lying or that they really don't own an Apple device. You people are the most annoying people on Apple sites. iOS 8 and the problems that come with it are very well known, you are not the typical use case. iOS 8 is a completely garbage ridden update that still should be listed as an alpha, much less a beta. Matter of fact, it shouldn't have been released at all because of all the BS bugs it contains.

Actually YOU are not the typical user case, since millions and I mean millions of users aren't experiencing the issues a very vocal few are reporting....
But on a "typical Apple forum post" is cool to define BS a very good operative system like iOS 8.

Not for nothing, but anyone who steals a ringtone they would otherwise honestly have to pay for needs to take a long, hard look at themselves.

Unless you don't value your character and integrity.

BL.

Why would you have to steal one? They're easy to make.

I've never even heard about this issues and I hang around Apple-related forums and websites quite a bit. However, I and many others have a ridiculously long laundry list of iOS 8 bugs that haven't even been addressed. How about all the crashing? My 6 Plus many times can't even switch from one Safari tab to the next without the last one reloading when you go back. I don't even remember my original iPhone with 128MB of RAM being that bad. Furthermore there are tons of other glitches, like white text overlaying the black status bar text sometimes, rotating video glitches on the Plus, problems with reachability not activating (sometimes it just stops for several minutes and then works fine), or reachability not even working with quick reply which means I can't reach the send button, or the Touch ID dialog screen sometimes freezes up the phone with a dark overlay that makes it impossible to touch anything, or iCloud Photo Library that has never worked, or the shoddy WiFi issues on the Air 2, or problems with slow-mo videos sometimes not recording in slow-mo, or that my share sheets sometimes still lose the order I've set the icons to, and several other things that I can't even recall at the moment. My iPhone 5 on iOS 7 was much better (software-wise) than my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8. Otherwise the 6 Plus has a gorgeous display, amazing camera, and looks really great.

Maybe I'm the only one, but my iPhone 6 Plus has never exhibited ANY of these issues you've mentioned. The switch from Android has been flawless.

Down loaded 8.1.2 on my iPhone 6 and iPad Air with iTunes and I can't tell any difference. Everything running smooth.

Fried My Phone

I did the usual upgrade through iTunes for my 5S iPhone and at the end of the procedure I got an error message that said,"An unknown error occurred (4013)."

I then tried to do a restore "5 times" and got the same result each time. I haven't seen anything like this since I upgraded to OS X (Panther) and it fried my external hard drive.

Anyone out there may want to "wait" on this one, or even skip it. I now have a nice shiny gold phone that will not operate at all.

May want to take a look at these two links. Sounds like you got a bad USB cable perhaps. Or maybe one of those cheap 3rd party ones. Don't think its the 8.1.2 update causing this.

Perhaps I need to reset my device, or try exchanging it?
