Apple Releases iOS 8 Beta 5 to Developers

Downloaded in under a minute on basic Xfinity Blast connection. Whatever they put in the water's working.

not strictly true, if an app is broken because of a breaking change in an API that apple didn't intend, then a later beta might fix the API and the app with it. it's possible.

Might not be absolutely true, but it's largely true. When new OS betas come out the developers have to release updates to address incompatibilities. They can't release the iOS 8 certified version until it the OS is released to the public.

The OP's point is valid. Don't install beta software on devices when they must work as your daily driver.

yeah, i've no idea about the particulars of the whatsapp and facebook bugs.

the beta process is a two way thing and a chance for developers to find and log bugs they find in the new framework. apple devs are very appreciative of this feedback on the apple dev forums. so it's not like the beta process is always for devs to change their apps according to apple's changes.

I generally blame Facebook because I've never met an app from them that didn't feel like it was beta. >_>

Don't see anything new, other than the iCloud icon in settings changed.

EDIT: iCloud Drive, Backup and Keychain with updated icons too

Can you post a screenshot of the new icons?

So, whats the current status of this beta compared to ios 7? Are all the graphical glitches a thing of the past (different screens overlaying each other, stuttering animations, graphics blocking text, etc etc etc) and more importantly is it crashing less? The update from iOS 6 to 7 was so bad, one can only hope that iOS 8 will be the bug fix release of iOS 7.

So dumb question. But I thought the icloud drive was going to be like a preinstalled app that was basically a file manager in the cloud similar to Google Drive or Dropbox. Is that not the case?

It's still a beta, so making a call on that wouldn't really reflect reality of iOS 8 in its final form. And as for this current/latest beta, most people haven't really even installed it yet, let alone used it for any meaningful period of time to even make some type of a call on that (at least as far as it relates to this beta in particular, and not iOS 8 in general).

Well it's basically a file manager but for apps, not built into iOS (like OS X Finder).

Just installed Beta 5. Noticed that on the lock screen there is a large rounded rectangle around the "Slide to Unlock" its very faint but its there and it moves when you slide it...

I'm not sure if this was changed in beta 5 but I noticed a new loading screen when I started a movie from the cloud.

Music no longer quits when you open the camera and music is playing.

Here's hoping battery draining had been fixed too.

Mine is stuck not long from 100% on that update bar. Wait or hard reset? :)
