Did a "reset network settings" on my phone, and when it came back up I was prompted to confirm I wanted my other devices to use my phone as an SMS relay. Not seen that before.

Google Sheets allows me to open and edit a sheet now for the first time since I got iOS 8 beta.

So dumb question. But I thought the icloud drive was going to be like a preinstalled app that was basically a file manager in the cloud similar to Google Drive or Dropbox. Is that not the case?

No, iCloud drive isn't an App. All of your existing documents in iCloud will move in to app folders in iCloud drive (e.g. ICD/Pages/mydoc.pages).

The difference is that you will be able to save files anywhere in iCloud drive; not just in a specific app folder. Apps can access files in any iCloud drive folder; not just their own app folders. So basically it does work like Dropbox, but it's built-in and there's no central Finder/explorer management app. You just see an iCloud drive panel when you want to open a file, and you can select anything using that panel.

I'm not sure about saving - I suppose it's up to the App to decide whether to put it in an app folder or to give you a save panel where you can create directories, etc.

Updated WI-FI CALLING

When wifi calling is enabled it now says T-Mobile WIFI and you can place and receive calls with cellular turned off. I think wifi calling is going to save alot of money for people who travel and take a load of cell networks.

New iCloud Photo Library settings.

Almost certainly not the final beta. The Swift language and its interoperability with APIs (Cocoa, Sprite Kit, etc.) still have a TON of issues, including some fairly major ones (and this is including the changes in this beta). They are making some progress, but there will be a few more betas, at least IMO.

Yes, but all the Swift libraries get embedded in to the App package, so Swift can continue to evolve even after the 8.0 final release.

Mine is stuck not long from 100% on that update bar. Wait or hard reset? :)

My iPad did the same. I got impatient and did a hard reset and it loaded into the Welcome screen with no issues. That was experience, but YMMV.

iOS 8 Beta 5 seems to be running very smoothly on my iPhone 5. I'm still having some buggy keyboard things though.

Awesome, thanks for the detailed reply. I was really hoping it had a finder like attribute to it as an app. Oh well haha. Still an improvement :)

Dumb question. If you convert to use iCloud Photo Library how can you access the photos from the Mac until the new photos app is available next year?

i understand its not purely ios8 related. but has anyone tried hand off between OS X dp 5 and iOS 8 beta 5; it does not seem to be working for me
