This has nothing to do with the potential to brick devices. How would Wi-Fi prevent that?
This setting is just a catch-all because most updates are multiple hundreds of megabytes and Apple doesn't want it eating up people's dataplans followed by endless complaints.
Yes they should. The first phase of an iOS update is to download the entire update package. This cannot brick your device. It's the actual install that has a chance, not tendency, to cause your device issues.
By the way, my wifi is a cellular device, so I am effectively always updating via non-wifi.
I want to say that the tvOS GM build that was released today is not, in fact, final. Still no App Store.
Wait....SPOCK?!???
*checks back through emojis*
I believe this is a carrier rule/issue not Apple. What bothers me is, the update is only 30.6 MB but still requires wifi to do the update. Apple should follow the same rules with this as they do App Store updates.
With iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus I do not have those lags. I read some 5S users complainLag in multitasking ? And ok. Go in settings>general>Siri. Now slowly return the gesture use
I keep clicking update then when I go out of setting & go back in. It keep showing up. Tried restarting, reset network settings but nothing.
Nice to finally see the News app in the UK! I've just set it all up on my iPhone, but then can't seem to sync my choices to the iPad...
Have toggled News in iCloud on/off, and restarted the iPad but still nothing.
Any hints?
That came with 9.0, not 9.1.Awesome!
Why did they not mention the new improved auto power saving mode. It reduces performance and increases lag to save power which result in longer battery life...
What I don't like is that after every update I have to enter my iCloud password again, also Apple Pay cards get removed.
You can remove the emoji keyboard from the keyboard settings then you want have to skip through it.just have no use for them and i would be nice not to have to go through them to get to my alt keyboard
What's crazy is that they released iOS 9.1 without (yet) releasing Xcode 7.1 to support it. There's not even a beta, old or new, of Xcode on Apple's developer site, as of 11 AM Pacific time. The old Xcode 7.0.1 in the Mac App Store won't work with iOS 9.1 devices.
I believe this is a carrier rule/issue not Apple.
I had to enter my iCloud password on my iPad but not iPhone, and all my cards are still in Apple Pay
