Apple Releases iOS 9 With Proactive Siri and Search, iPad Split-Screen Multitasking, Transit Directions, and More

I joined the public beta program. My device is running iOS 9.1 beta. However, I want the legit iOS 9.0 now. No bugs, no lame performance...

What can I do? Because I go to the update settings and there's nothing there.

Yes, doing what you did kinda presumes you actually know what you're doing.

Restore the phone back to the release 9.0. You will not be able to bring a backup from 9.1 back to 9.0, hope you saved a 9.0 or earlier backup before you installed 9.1.

I was looking forward to the multitasking capability on my Air2 as I use Pages a lot and am constantly switching between that and Safari for reference.

Early days but I'm slightly concerned that despite being an Apple app, Pages is not supporting split screen at time of writing. It got me wondering how it would work anyway with the keyboard when squeezed into half a screen, so perhaps that's the reason why that and Number don't support this currently.

Apart from the multi-tasking there's precious little that adds significant value in this update I find. And I cannot locate the new News app anywhere!

Anyone try downloading a file/video from the iCloud app? Can't do it--

I rebooted and now dl'ing a 1gb movie--not sure how long it will take. DB much faster to load movie-

Guess DB streams and iCloud doesn't

otherwise is seems good so far

Updated iPad Air 2 and two iPhone 6 (via iTunes store) all looking good. do not like the app switcher at all. I liked the last app switcher.

App store - available updates - the bug is back, even though all the apps are updates, still shows the numbers to be updated (man, hate that, not sure how the bug appeared again) :(

Killed a 5s and 6. thanks apple.

Right... Non descript event cataclysmic on 2 different phones... While a dozen people I know had no difficulty at all on ANY of their devices (that's a lot of devices)....

This one in a few million event you had must surely be true. No question...

Describe this event precisely so we gauge how "killed" your phones are....
I'm pretty sure their not close to "dead" at all; if they even exist.

I'm just hoping that this stops Safari from crashing 40 to 50 times a day, keeping my fingers crossed.

10 whole minutes without a crash so far, a miracle.

Anyone else seeing apps needing to be updated but they were already updated? For instance: On my iPhone after I updated to iOS 9, there were apps that showed up as updated but I never updated them (and I have the automatic update turned off) now they're saying "update". Same thing on my iPad air 2 except I updated them, but then they needed to be updated again.

Yup. Similar thing on my iPad and iPhone after the iOS 9 update. The button actually flashes "Update" for about a half second, but switches to "Open" before I can hit it. Killing and restarting the App Store app doesn't help.

No slide over or split screen for my creaky old third gen* and the new Siri stuff is blah at best. What I'm hoping for is the ability to run *just two* open tabs without constant refreshing. So.....The Verge, a pretty "heavy" page, is open beside this one. No other apps running. Let's go see what happens!

Edit: Holy crap! No reload!

Updated my iPhone 6 Plus.
Features and visual effects are good but the performance to me is slow. I don't know if this is just me but there is slowness in performance.
Example is the Multitask(I love the design) by flicking through the open apps is sometimes sluggish.
Opening apps(even Apple apps) also has slowness.
Using the Spotlight search is also slow(especially when pulling it down from the home screen).
Performance for me is really lagging.
I didn't try testing all of the apps as some are still not iOS9 compatible.

I updated my 5s and my iPad Air. So far, no problems, performance seems to be about the same. Geekbench 3 scores are about the same. No safari crashes yet. I like the option to record in 720p. Getting used to the new font. Didn't get a chance to test out low power mode and some other features yet.

For kicks I updated my 4s, which at this point I only use for my Sonos Play:1 speakers and maybe the camera if I'm charging my 5s. It's kind of a minor backup to my 5s with really no apps installed other than the Sonos app and YouTube. Maybe in a few months, I'll add it to my "Apple Museum", joining my 3rd Gen 15GB iPod (2003), 2nd and 5th Gen Nanos (2006, 2009) and my 3rd Gen iPod touch (2009). Performance on the 4s is about as slow as it was with iOS 8. However, it doesn't really matter any more.

I installed the GM builds on my iPad Air and iPhone 6+ last week. I have been confused all week as my 6+ slowed down a lot, but my Air felt slightly faster. Made no sense to me at all given the Air has the A7. Well it turns out I accidentally installed 9.1 on my Air. I guess that at least gives me hope the 6+ will get faster when that comes out. It's pretty damn disappointing all the same, being excited about a maintenance release that will speed up my phone only to have it slow down significantly. The new features are definitely not worth the performance hit.

I think the apps on my 4s are loading faster than before. It didn't seem that way at first, but now after powering it off and powering it on again, apps seem to load faster, about as fast as my 5s. It's looking more and more like Apple's claims that iOS 9 will be mostly about stability are true.

on 6 plus its laggy as hell. if animations are turned off its fine but with it on the multitasker is a bitch to use with the lag. got rid of 9 and went back to 8.4.1

see you 9 when you reach 9.1.5 maybe!!

Safari crashing this much likely meant you had some glitches and needed a good ole-fashioned restore. Upgrading would do essentially the same thing in resolving the issue.

Just curious, how do you “accidentally” update an iPad? :D

Did a complete clean restore, didn't help, I was ready to throw it in the bin, it's an iPad Air 18 months old. Anyway 9 seems to have fixed it so far haven't had a crash since installing it a few hours ago, I'm almost starting to miss those constant crashes, maybe I'll get my money back.

Happens on 8.4.1 too. Today is the first time I've seen it but it was happening for a while this afternoon. I don't think it's an iOS 9 bug.
