It’s pretty amazing that an iPhone 5S from 2013 is still being supported with security updates. Hopefully they support the HomePod for 7+ years.
I think the number of security threats with HomePod is almost nonexistent. The chance Apple will need to release a security patch for the Homepod in 7 years is verrrrry small. You’re probably hoping it will continue to function or get new features, and that’s an entirely different issue.

Nearly 200 mb is kinda big for just a security update. Usually those are under 50mb....wonder how much was changed?

4.21GB download going from 14.4.1 on an old iPhone SE that doesn't have a SIM card and spends 100% of its time fully shutdown in my backpack. Not sure how it would have gotten infected if this large download has anything to do with the size. Maybe the large size is an omen...I better buy a lottery ticket for tonight's drawing. :)

Been updating my iOS devices for 11 years now, no bricked devices yet. 🤔

At least I don’t have to reboot the device and look at progress bar progressing.

Also why is browser update need full system update?

That has nothing to do with it. You are going through iTunes, that is always just a full OS install, if you went over the air it would be much smaller

it's a framework that underlies more than just Safari browser

What framework. You can update a freaking browser without update MacOS... You can also do it with Android, Windows, Linux etc.

It is getting annoying to have update iOS across all devices.

What does this mean for those on the public beta - SOL in the meantime? 🤔
It may already be patched in beta 5.

We may not find out for sure unless someone with specific knowledge about the vulnerability tests it, or if the vulnerability is included in release notes for Beta 6, when it comes out.

Just release 14.5 already

JUST RELEASE 14.5 !! they are holding it up for Facebook, Google & the other security tracking violators. These almost every 10 days security updates are a pain- RELEASE 14.5!
Just stop hoping apple to cover ur ass already. Apple has no point protecting user privacy unless money is down the line. Also there is a very real chance the final feature you are waiting for will mostly be a placebo. Google Facebook and such will eventually find another way to target you with precise ads without IDFA. Then you hope apple will release another iOS to “protect your privacy”?

On top of that, software development in theory has no timeline as test alone can go on forever. It has one because we demand it, doesn’t mean iOS 14.5 release will be bug free and issue free. This is unrealistic and will never happen. Go on with your life and iOS 14.5 will come when it’s ready.

It's the WebKit framework that is used by every app that integrates a browser. You don't just update "the browser" on iOS. You update a big chunk of the operating system that makes browser instances available to third party apps.
