I don't get it, why doesn't Apple let us download an OTA update via LTE already, and keeps it mandatory to wifi?!?

My LTE is way faster and more reliable than most wifi in Germany.
This is a concession made to the carriers. They are the ones stopping Apple for allowing this. If it were up to Apple, they don’t care how you get it really.

This is a big day for updates!

iOS 14.1
Windows 10 20H2
Adobe apps
NVidia video drivers
AMD video drivers

🤩
With the exception of Apple, I'm always inclined to wait awhile before installing updates. I installed a Win 10 update for my gaming desktop last week, and it caused a lot of errors. Luckily, I was able to uninstall the update and return to normal.

My widgets finally seem to be working appropriately...I’m afraid to update only to find something new broken.

"Improves compatibility with Ubiquiti wireless access points"

I noticed one or twice that my WiFi stalled on my iPad. Wasn't sure what the cause of the problem was. Good to know this is improved. (I have Ubiquiti access points at home)

Is the Intercom feature available in this update? It's in iOS 14.1 for HomePod but from this article can't tell if it's debuting in iOS for iPhone/iPad/Airpods etc. but leaning no.

I think it is also a "legal" issue - you don't have unlimited and don't understand that this is going to cost money to download that much and some lawyer will sue Apple for allowing this to happen.
Maybe when 5G really exists this will change. But for many that don't have as great cell as WiFi it could take a long time and might have errors in the download and thus even more data

I find this funny because of how much Apple & Verizon hyped 5G in the iPhone 12 announcement. Very "Sign up for our service, but don't use it!"
At the same time, it doesn't seem like any updates have come out for 5G devices.

Unless you’re on a 5G plan. I think I read that earlier today.

Didn't see anything about messages lag when first opening it, hope its fixed...

I use 14.1 and I think it’s gotten worse.

Anyone else been having issues with airplaying videos to their Apple TV? As soon as the screen turns off the video stops and you have to turn your display on and tap play, which then loses where you were in the video. So extremely frustrating.

I really wish MacRumors would include security update info for each patch. This would really help stress if an update is critical or just another bug fix update.

According to Apple's security page:
iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1
This update has no published CVE entries.

I live on the edge! :p

I've already updated Adobe and NVidia... and I just downloaded the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool for 20H2

I will wipe and clean-install my secondary laptop tonight. I don't keep anything important on it anyway. It's just a travel laptop. And it's easy to download the few programs I use.

But yes... I usually wait a while before I do anything with my primary desktop. That's the most important computer.

Luckily I've never had any bad experiences with any kind of updates. Fingers crossed!

I'm in the process of updating an iPhone 7 Plus, and iPad Air 2 to iOS 14.1. For me, I have had very little trouble with iOS 14 as a whole. Not even any of the major battery issues people have mentioned. I typically just keep my apps updated, and update anything needing an update prior to installing a new version of iOS. The only version of iOS I could say I had initial issues with, was iOS 13. I'll come back and share my experience once the update is completed.

I love iOS 14 so much, but Apple, this... 😏

it is most probably restricted by the carrier definition file of your MNO.

mine has this:

<key>OTASoftwareUpdate</key>
<dict>
<key>MaxBytesOverCellular</key>
<integer>629145600</integer>
</dict>

so updates less than 629Mbytes can be downloaded via cellular. who is your MNO? this information can be downloaded from apple.

Would like to know what it fixed myself. Have several Ubiquiti AP's at home.
