No fix for "Map my ride / run / outdoor walk"?? Apple goes "all-in" heavily on the fitness stuff then doesn't fix a major bug that prevents mapping outdoor activities? Come on already - it's a core feature of their product line.

Works here, FWIW (iPhone 11 + Watch SE)

Could quite likely be based on agreements with carriers who don't want to have a lot of bandwidth taken up around the same time by many devices downloading larger updates.

They already have iOS 14.1 on them.

I always wondered, if production started already 1-2 months ago and they were packaged how do they install the latest “launch” iOS that was still in development at the moment of phone assembly?

I don't get it, why doesn't Apple let us download an OTA update via LTE already, and keeps it mandatory to wifi?!?

My LTE is way faster and more reliable than most wifi in Germany.

So some people don't get their data ****ed by accident?

I'm in the process of updating an iPhone 7 Plus, and iPad Air 2 to iOS 14.1. For me, I have had very little trouble with iOS 14 as a whole. Not even any of the major battery issues people have mentioned. I typically just keep my apps updated, and update anything needing an update prior to installing a new version of iOS. The only version of iOS I could say I had initial issues with, was iOS 13. I'll come back and share my experience once the update is completed.

The only issues of any significance I've ever had is AW S6 not showing GPS data on outdoor walks in the fitness app. It was also missing the heart rate, but that came back after 14.0.1

I believe devices aren't actually packaged until somewhat later in the process and the iOS version that goes onto them is usually available for use by Apple quite a bit earlier than it becomes available externally in one fashion or another.

I had the Win 10 2004 update really screw up my laptop a few months ago, to the point where it would go into a boot loop. I was able to use the Media Creation Tool to install Windows (the 2004 version) while keeping my settings and files. It fixed whatever the issue was and I didn't have to reinstall all of my programs. (For Mac folks, the 2004 update refers to April 2020.)

Good luck!
20H2 is definitely better than 2004.

I hope we are able to update our iPhone 12’s to 14.2 when they arrive on Friday. Otherwise I’ll be stuck like last year and not be able to use my phone until they do release the beta for it. Restore from backup doesn’t work when the restore device has an older version than what’s in iCloud.

I've never used any of the Health stuff on a regular basis from Apple. True I've set it up, but the only thing I really tried was the steps integrated into the Walgreens app for earning points. I tried it though, and then disabled it. Just seemed like something I'd never use, and I disabled it to reserve battery.

No health app fix. Apple are a joke.
Un-*****-believeable.

First time I immediately updated iOS and have regretted it immediately. Pathetic that they cannot even test out their own integrated apps properly. For the cost, I expect better.

Edit: Just tested and yes it has. Finally.

Does iOS 14.1 have Intercom support? Other websites seem to claim that it does, but iPadOS 14.1 doesn’t have it. Are we forced to wait for 14.2 for mobile devices to get it, while the HomePod gets it with 14.1?

NVidia video drivers
Wait wait, what nVidia drivers?

I don’t know about any problems with Health, but to me it’s unacceptable that Apple moved Bedtime to the Health app with the release of 14... thereby TAKING IT AWAY from everyone with an iPad since they refuse to make a Health app for iPad (and Weather, and...). I used that to wake up. It was spectacular. By law, they can’t do that, can they?

What issues were previous IOS updates having with Unifi Access Points? This 14.1 shows a compatibility fix. Didn't know there was prior issues.

So why Apple lets us download a 6GB or 10GB Apple TV film/episode on LTE?

HomePod seems to know what Intercom is, asks me to dictate/send message, but then tells me Intercom is not turned on in the Home. Neither my iPhone 11Pro nor iPad Pro seem to show any signs of Intercom in the Home app or anywhere else...does anyone know if Intercom is in iOS/iPadOS 14.1?

Good to see they STILL haven't fixed the Fitness app/Apple Watch data sync/display issue yet. Getting tired of seing incorrect graphs vs. raw data and incomplete maps for GPS workouts... Get it together, Apple...

I’m still on 13.7. What is this bug? Do you lose health data when upgrading? Is it an ongoing thing like health data doesn’t sync properly like from the watch? What’s going on here?

I usually wait till Christmas time to update iOS because by then the big bugs are usually ironed out.

I jumped the gun this year and updated day one and woke up to my phone feeling super hot and my widgets weren’t working and I noticed a lot of keyboard lag so I immediately went back to 13.7.

It seems as if iOS is actually in beta till early to mid winter before they can polish it up every year.

Isn't it time for someone to ask how battery life is already?;)

We've established that it's irritatingly **** and closed the case. I'm now migrating all my apps to Android now to see if it's any better. So far it's at least twice as good as is on my iOS.

Prelaunch units are installed with a test build then stockpiled in some sort of bulk storage container (like a styrofoam brick with a bunch of slots).

When the golden master is released the assembled devices are flashed with the release software, probably on a cloning station that can handle dozens of iPhones at once. The final step would be to package in retail boxes.

Only after launch do the units coming off the assembly line go directly into retail boxes.

It’s not like each iPhone was plugged in one by one into a Mac to load the software.

Too early 😆
I'll report on in tomorrow. Have it on the Mini 5 and OG SE.

This is a concession made to the carriers. They are the ones stopping Apple for allowing this. If it were up to Apple, they don’t care how you get it really.

Learned something. Thanks.

20H2 is definitely better than 2004.

20H2 (fall) is a small feature update compared to the 2004 (spring) one which is the main update.
It took me only about 1 minute, much less than the regular October patch Tuesday updates.

No problems, XS Max seems a tad snappier...maybe??
Just switching camera modes, app switcher seems faster to me. (Not sure if thats a placebo effect?)

Battery did drop to 95% in about 10 min....BUT I did just install this - big upgrade from 13.7, so I'll let that pass right now and give it a day or 2. So far so good though. This app library, like many previous posts I don't quite understand the need for it personally, just big folders and a quicker access to apps is ok. I don't think I'll use it that much though.

iPad OS, no messed up various sized icons, this seems to be ok right now. I'll dive into this more later.

The latest watch OS on my AW 4, whew..after just a few minutes adding new faces, that battery went down to 96%. Again, I'm going from OS 6 to 7...so I hope this is just a new install, indexing deal.
