I don't get it, why doesn't Apple let us download an OTA update via LTE already, and keeps it mandatory to wifi?!?

My LTE is way faster and more reliable than most wifi in Germany.
I agree with you. If Android users can be trusted to download OTA updates, why can’t Apple users?

Getting a little bit ticked off at Apple. Two questions:

(1) Does everyone have the activity app’s gps and mapping bug, or just some people?

(2) And if you get the bug, is wiping and restoring the phone and watch guaranteed to fix the issue?

I’ve been holding off on iOS 14 and leaving my 11 Pro Max on iOS 13.7 and series 5 LTE watch on 6.2.8 because of the activity bug. But I bought a series 6 LTE watch on launch because I thought the pulse ox would be nice to have with my lung disease (don’t have to carry multiple devices to keep time, activity, and O2 levels).

I now have a one month old series 6 LTE Apple Watch that I still can’t use while I’m on iOS 13.7, and I’m wishing I had just returned it until apple gets their **** together.

On 13.7 everything seems to be working fine on my phone and old S5 Apple Watch, and since I’m going on a one-week trip this weekend I don’t want to do the update now that 14.1 is out IF it’s still going to cause trouble.

Nice with the Ubiquiti fix, several users reported problems in the past.
Yea I was surprised to see this addressed so quickly as well. Just did some speed tests on my 2020 iPad Pro connected to my Ubiquiti setup on 14.01 and then 14.1 and speeds went up ~10% consistently from same AP and same location.

I hope we are able to update our iPhone 12’s to 14.2 when they arrive on Friday. Otherwise I’ll be stuck like last year and not be able to use my phone until they do release the beta for it. Restore from backup doesn’t work when the restore device has an older version than what’s in iCloud.
From what I understand, 14.2 is for all supported iPhone models.

I have a AW4 that I received the GPS and mapping gift/bug when I updated to AW 7 and IOS 14. I did a restore and install backup on both watch and iPhone, has worked as designed since. I have read here some had to restore as new. I’m updating now to 14.1, hope it doesn’t break something else.

Thanks! I’m hoping to hear from somebody who upgraded from 13.7 to 14.1 and did not experience this bug.

I know the wisest move, four days before I go out of town for a week, is to just leave things as they are; and wait until I get back to update, unless I see people who are updating from 13.x to 14.1 for the first time and do not see the activity app GPS bug.

Apple Watch 6, WatchOS7 and iOS 14 here. Have had the activity bugs (gps, Heath app data gaps, you name it) since the upgrade to iOS 14. Held out doing the nonsense wipe and restore “solution” hoping 14.1 would solve things. Unfortunately it didn’t, at least for me. Completely fed up with Apple on this.

<shrug> Hence don't run a beta OS on a production device.
What? There are public betas along with the developer releases So many people will get stung by this short term problem. It’s just a hassle when it really shouldn’t be one as Apple surely has been testing the 12’s on 14.2 since the first beta and it’s just a matter of releasing it on the portal or for OTA. Last year they waited a week if I recall.

I just end up having to setup the phone as new and signing into my iCloud so all my files and stuff is there (so the new phone is at least usable) and then once both phones can run the same beta version, I update, wipe, force the latest backup on the old device, and then restore that backup on the new device.

Did they fix the delay in the Messages app?

And what is the "Improves compatibility with Ubiquiti wireless access points" about? Anyone have information as to what the problem was and what AP's were affected? I have them in my home and in client offices. It's nice they fixed something, but it'd be nice to know what that something is!

Do you think that coming from iOS 13.7 without the GPS bug, to iOS 14.1 might avoid the GPS bug?

It may be that once you had the activity data corruption from 14.0 that 14.1 doesn’t fix it, but maybe 14.1 will NOT create the data corruption if you’re still on 13.7?

I had the same issue where my AW 4 wouldn’t record outdoor GPS when I went for a walk. All I did to fix it was to unpair my watch and it worked. It was fine on iOS 13 and it began once I upgraded to iOS 14

So you had 13.7 and updated your iPhone + AW4 and lost gps data, and it came back with only resetting the watch?

I updated from 13.7/6.x to 14.0/7.0 without issue on my iPhone SE 2020/Apple Watch S5. My battery life did not change nor did my GPS data disappear. Everything works the same now as it did before I upgraded.

So it sounds like it’s a toss of the coin, some people have problems, other people don’t.

Yeah, sadly, from everything I have read that appears to be the case. Although, this might also be the reason why Apple is having trouble tracking down the exact reason it is happening (if it was happening to everyone the problem would be easier to solve).
