Yup, jacked my wife's tethering and MMS hacks.....:eek::eek:

This makes sense. 280MB download would be the full OS. The $64 question os if it is just the 3.0 OS with the SMS fix. If so, the 3.0 hacks could be reapplied.

BL.

I bet this was already fixed in 3.1 (if not in the released beta, then the next one) but they released it because of the public reveal.

I wish SMS worked more like email and I could make it so that I could choose not to receive them unless I checked manually (or at least only receive notification of a message and not the actual message until I told it to).

No need to yell at Google. Android was already patched.

Google has already confirmed that Android platform has been patched.

not a good idea if you have jailbroken 3.0 i guess?
If you have to even ask, you really shouldn't be jailbreaking your device.

I think this is just purely a simple fix for the SMS. They may not have added, block jailbreak or anything like that in this firmware update.

This is how serious the SMS exploit is that Apple actually has to release an unexpected firmware update immediately.

Apple needs to figure out how to implement a diff update for iPhone OS. I mean a 300MB for a simple bug? They could just release a 512kb update file just to fix the bug. I am curious why they aren't doing a binary diff update for minor software updates like this one.

YOu think, uh i would wait for Dev Team or Geo to announce it's safe.

Besides, what do I care if it brings down the crap AT&T network -- who would notice anyway?

I'm really shocked

No one has commented on how much snappier Safari is after this update...

You would, because you wouldn't have a working phone or a place to go complain about it, like you are now.

But leave the ATT bashing for another thread, okay? There are bigger issues being discussed here.

uh what? NVM, i dont care. You obviously didn't catch my joke as I neglected to insert a :)

I downloaded that early this morning too (and, I don't even golf).
Can you believe it was priced, at the beginning, at $49.99?
Anytime I can get a super expensive app for 99c I must do so even if I don't plan on ever using it.

Ha, same here. Maybe they will update it with mini golf course info.

Has someone confirmed if it breakes tethering?
Thanks

^^ I'd like to know this as well. I will not risk losing tethering just to block a hack which is not being actively exploited.

Can anyone confirm that the Ben.at carrier hack still works on iPhone 3GS?

Thanks in advance!

I got Error 3014 while it was installing the update. I'm left with the picture of the USB cable, arrow, and iTunes icon. I unplugged it, plugged it in and it only sees it as a new phone. I told it to restore and update.

When it tried to restore, it got stuck at a message saying that it is verifying the restore with Apple and then comes back with Error 3014. Has anyone ever seen that before? I'm legit AT&T iPhone customer...never had a problem before.

So, does this mean that Apple is the FIRST to fix this vulnerability, which ALSO affects Windows Mobile and Android?

If, so, I bet the headlines will still read "Panicked Apple rushes to fix shocking iPhone security disaster!!!" when they should read "Microsoft, Google and wireless carriers late to fix serious flaw in Windows Mobile and Android, while Apple patches iPhones promptly."

(I saw something vague about "Google has taken steps" but has the fix been distributed to both Android users? If so, then only Windows Mobile is left behind?)

And I should add: good catch! (To the researcher who found the problem.)

Baseband is 04.26.08, same as 3.0; so unlock should still keep.

Build is 3.0.1 (7A400)

It kept my Tethering settings, and it still works (just tested it quickly), but I was never able to get MMS working via the hacks, so I can't comment on that.

I was not jailbroken, so I can't comment on that either, but ModMyI seems to have said that it breaks it, which isn't a surprise at all.

This is on my 32GB 3GS Black.

Apple notified of problem a month ago. No word from them that they are working on a fix or when to expect that fix.

"Problem" gets on National tv (saw it with the headline... a problem that effects ALL iPhones..."

Few days later, Apple releases SMS Security Flaw fix...

Way to go for "bad press"!

The computer I use to sync with my phone is in repairs, so it'll be a while until I can update. :( Is there any way to disable SMS until I have the ability to update?
