Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.0.1 to Address SMS Security Vulnerability

Glad to see this patch is in. I use my iPhone a lot. Nice to know Apple can move if they want (or are forced) to. 😛
 
Aww that sucks,

When the iPhone gets a bug that goes public, it gets a fix within a few days.
If Mac OSX gets a bug, we have to wait months if not years!!!

Who wants to help me make a big fuss over Mac OSX security holes???
 
okay, so everyone talks about redsnow and how it is the only way to jailbreak 3.0.1

but isn't redsnow an unlocking program? I always used quickpwn to JB since I have no need for the sim unlock. So can't I just update to 3.0.1 then run quickpwn again?

Any help is appreciated, I think I'm gonna wait for some feedback before updating.

Redsn0w is made by the same people behind QuickPWN. Why wouldn't you just use it?

Redsn0w is a jb program, ultrasn0w is the unlock software that you dl after from cydia.

When it tried to restore, it got stuck at a message saying that it is verifying the restore with Apple and then comes back with Error 3014. Has anyone ever seen that before? I'm legit AT&T iPhone customer...never had a problem before.

I had the same issue, was stuck unable to restore my phone, but used the following technique to get the 3.0.1 update to install properly: http://blog.mcchouse.com/2009/08/iphone-os-301-update-error-3014.html

Tethering will continue to work. USB tethering (with the stock 30-pin -> USB cable) worked great after the upgrade. Bluetooth tethering didn't work at first, to fix it I had to remove and re-add pairing between my Mac and iPhone. Simple. YMMV.
 
I'm having strange battery levels after this update, I guess I should do a restore and see what happens, but I take it off the charger and the battery indicator shows almost empty an hour later it's completely full. Since this update didn't change anything major I've got assume it's something else, but it's quite strange that it started after the update.
