Why can't non-developers be left alone to install beta software - its their decision, right? So many patronising devs feel they have a duty to tell the public they dont have a right to install the betas.

Technically someone did something illegal (i.e. broke a contract) if someone installs the beta for non-development purposes, so in that sense no, the general public does not have the right to install the betas.

As much as I too get annoyed by people constantly moaning about things not working perfectly in these beta builds, I equally see no reason for people like you to belittle everyones posts and telling them what they should and shouldn't do.

They don't have a "right" install betas. They are violating the license agreements by definition.

I don't think any developers here have been patronising ... I agree with them, and cannot understand why people are prepared to install incomplete, unstable software onto their main iPhone just because they're too impatient to wait for the official release.

Developers will have a testing iPhone and their own iPhone, so they can mess around with the beta's they're entitled to, knowing they're not risking their personal iPhone for day to day use.

Because people think they're special, install the beta, find bugs, and then rather than accept they're running a beta build and bother to file bugs on it through the proper channel, they bitch far and wide across the internet that Apple shipped a buggy OS and it bricked their phone that they depend on every day.

It is already bitting users in the ass.

Though I have to admit most iPad users font have a clue as to why safari on iPad behaves like it does.
Apple's decision to include 256MB of ram is going to bit them in the ass.

I'm still wishful that the late fall release is due to an upgraded iPad with 512MB of RAM. That would make for a far more useful Safari experience on 3G. Sadly I was waiting for a 3G model but the limited RAM has me seriously rethinking that.

It's certainly POSSIBLE, although unlikely, that the iPad 3G version coming out next week does have 512 MB of RAM, given that's it slightly bigger and it seems that they are charging more of a premium for JUST 3G than was expected.

I'd like to believe it is due to an iPad coming out in the fall with enough memory to actually run iPhone OS 4.0 well with multitasking. In other words a 512MB iPad.

The truth is likely to be far different. That likely due to two development teams not knowing what the other is doing.

Dave

I don't see them releasing a new iPad in the Fall.

I was actually thinking/wishing that would happen.

For a number of reasons though I'd be shocked. For one thing such an improvement would require a new A4 variant, because A4 is actually a stack of RAM and CPU chips. I suppose it is possible though and actually kind of hope it is a real possibility.

The big problem or unknown with the 3G iPad is how much extra RAM will the extra support code for 3G cost iPad if any. IPad is already extremely thin on RAM so having the system use even more would be a bad thing. So if Apple addresses this that would be great but I'd also be surprised.

Dave

In this case not new but simply upgraded memory wise.

I don't see them releasing a new iPad in the Fall.

I would think this would be highly likely and would happen just before the holiday shopping season. It would allow Apple to market as new and improved to the holiday shopper. Plus it would keep the iPad looking new relative to the competition that will be available in that time frame. The competition will pick at the weak areas on the iPad and memory is one area that can be cheaply attacked. Besides it fits in with their notebook upgrade cycles.

As to a totally new iPad in the fall that is possible two. Something in the 6-7" range is very possible in my mind. Not to mention that iPod Touch will likely become more IPad like. September/October will be very interesting in my mind.

Exchange 2003 still cannot sync in beta 2.

If I restore back to 3.1.3 it works perfectly.

4.0b1 and 4.0b2 both give the following error:

Anyone know where to get the "appleapplicationsupport.msi" and the other files mentioned in the release notes to get syncing w/ the beta to work under windows? I'm a registered developer, but I can't seem to figure out where to get these files.

Download itunes installer again. Extract it using winrar or 7zip or something of that nature.

Anyone know how to get the beta onto an Iphone using Windows? Mac I know you have to use Xcode.

Why? People are purchasing the IPad right no with no idea what RAM even is.

I would be pissed if the 3G has more RAM than the WiFi.
Do you own a WiFi model right now? If so do or did you know how much RAM it had when you purchased it?

I only ask because this is the sleaziest bit of marketing that Apple has ever done, they have sold more than a half a million devices with out even stating how much RAM is installed in the device. Yet people have gone nuts buying iPads to which many of us have to ask why. It use to be any self respecting geek knew what RAM was but these forums indicate that isn't true anymore.

Then if you say anything about this stupidity you get the same old tired response "it is the experience that counts". This is utter hogwash because these individuals simply don't understand the electronics of a computer enough to understand what RAM does for performance. Not to mention what is even possible on a computer with no virtual memory.

So again I have to ask how could you be pissed off considering Apple has never advertised the installed RAM size? What you should be pissed off about is Apple hiding these figures from consummers in the first place. It is extremely consummer unfriendly of Apple to do so.

More than likely because their has not been the release of the iPhone 4th generation. Their is no need to release it in the SDK until Apple properly announces it.

However two months of development time would do wonders and make the transition as smooth as possible. Instead of getting crappy games that don't really support the resolution people would have more great looking games from the get go, which is much to Apple's advantage.
