Extremely buggy beta!!

Am i the only who's having serious problems on my 3GS with this release? It's super slow and i can't take a photo or video. The whole app just freezes!! The first beta was perfect by comparison

Mine works fine, but I'm sure I'll find some bugs. It is to be expected with a beta.

However two months of development time would do wonders and make the transition as smooth as possible. Instead of getting crappy games that don't really support the resolution people would have more great looking games from the get go, which is much to Apple's advantage.

That was my point exactly. Then on Lauch Day Jobs can stand on stage with his jeans and black turtle neck and show us what a world of developers have been able to do with it.

Mine is a complete mess too. Very slow, crashing constantly. WTF? B1 worked really well. I have installed it on my 3GS while I still had SDK 4b1 installed. I now have SDK 4b2 installed and will try to reinstall my iPhone, perhaps that helps.

My MobileMe email now shows the correct number of unread emails as a badge, but I get 75 blank emails with no subject, sender or body all unread, with no other messages. Deleted the account and reinstalled. Same issue.

UGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

can someone please tell me...

if you can choose different ringtones for messaging?

Speaking as a parent whose children sometime get a hold of my phone...

I hope they add to the "Folders" feature the ability to password protect it -- even just use the same 'unlock' code would be wonderful. The ability to prevent small hands from deleting things on accident would be super!

Heya

Actually i would love screen lock for certain page.
Apps for work, monitoring expenses and so so on can be deleted by anyone especially the children.

So screen lock apple.

A potential work around is start a new MMS and as the recipient, enter your email address. Take the picture and send it to your email for storage. Not optimal, but a solution for taking/saving pics in 4b2.

That's why they call it a beta. Don't use it if you need things to work properly.

Is it my phone or someone else is having problem beta 2 saving the pic when you take it from the camera app

Is this a consistent thing for people? WIll Apple keep this in the beta 2, or make a quick beta 3 to fix this problem?
Any issues will not be taken care of until Beta 3 (even then they may not be taken care of, there is no guarantee). Will they make a quick update? Most likely not.

The beta builds are just snapshots of the current development state that they release every few weeks. Various things may or may not be broken depending on what they are working on at the time the beta is released. This is how betas work. There will be no fixes unless there is a huge problem that prevents the OS from running at all.

I wonder how long it will take to jailbreak 4.0

i don't plan to update until a jailbreak is available

There is almost no chance apple will do a quick fix for this. The point of the beta is for developers to make progress at the API level. You are describing an end user bug that frankly has zero impact on the ability of developers to make progress.

Once again. Don't use a beta and then cry when things, even simple things, don't work. The definition of beta is random stuff doesn't work.

As much as I too get annoyed by people constantly moaning about things not working perfectly in these beta builds, I equally see no reason for people like you to belittle everyones posts and telling them what they should and shouldn't do.

Why can't non-developers be left alone to install beta software - its their decision, right? So many patronising devs feel they have a duty to tell the public they dont have a right to install the betas.

/rant over

Agree with you completely. It's my iPhone and my choice to run un-supported beta software on it and face the consequences of doing that.

Apples whole mentality of "its still our phone" is somewhat annoying. There are plenty of iPhone users out there that aren't "software developers" but have the technical knowledge to find and point out "bugs" in the software.

And hey they do say that curiosity killed the cat but thats up for me to take that chance not you or apple.

What's New in iPhone OS 4.0

"Task finishing - If your app is in mid-task when your customer leaves it, the app can now keep running to finish the task."

Ok so if I'm understanding this right, it's not true multitasking (which I already knew but didn't know to what extent) in the sense that if I'm downloading a file with an application and leave that application then that file will continue to download for only 10 more minutes before it times out?

It's certainly POSSIBLE, although unlikely, that the iPad 3G version coming out next week does have 512 MB of RAM, given that's it slightly bigger and it seems that they are charging more of a premium for JUST 3G than was expected.

Tony

Not going to happen, the change is not that simple as the RAM are stacked upon the CPU, not in its own slot and Apple did not state the RAM size. Which means there's no difference, otherwise they would use it to justify the higher cost for 3G as well.
