well,

i really like it so far.

i don't have any problems with personal preference in using the new itunes 11 except for ONE thing that i hope they fix very VERY soon - no double click to minimize!!!

omg.. i use this with every app when using Mac OS.. one of the defining intuitive features of OS 10, missing from itunes flagship consumer software.

by the way, someone earlier in this thread said there is no album art view in the list view.

this is nonsense. 'artists' list view is basically that view. i dont know how anyone else set it up, but in artist list view, i have list view of songs, that i can order by artist, album by year, with album art visible! with a decent artist list column on the left.

i will definitely be using artist and album views most often.

Man, this update was soooooo needed! iTunes have never been especially good as far as I can remember, but it was always needed for the iPod/iPhone so you was kinda stuck with it. At last we have an iTunes that is actually good to use.

If your 'other' is impossibly huge...

Figured out why my iOS devices wouldn't sync. iTunes 11 was seeing over 1000 songs that weren't on the phone as if they were. The iOS devices themselves weren't confused and knew the songs weren't there, but on the initial connection my iPad was seeing 40+ GB of phantom music and would lose the connection when it got to the music part of the sync.. Turned off Music sync and was able to do a sync and then turned it back on... works now.

Safari doesn't do that on 10.8.2. Are you sure that it wasn't an old feature that finally got removed?

Safari does still minimise when you double-click the title bar. iTunes 11 doesn't do this. I presume it's because the 'LCD Display' is really close to the edge and there isn't technically a title bar anymore.

I bet this has been mentioned -- but now that the colors are back in the sidebar, I wonder if they will come back to finder in 10.9? Here's hoping!

I Like it.. But..

I really like the new design but there is something i don't get…

Lets say i use my keyboard to navigate through my albums.. i find a SONG i like to hear.. I press enter (i find that naturally )
Now the WHOLE album is added to my "next up queue"!! I only wanted to hear that one song!!

Anybody knows the shortcut to add just one song to the next up queue?

But maybe its a bit deeper... I never really understood why iTunes works as it does.. You have a huge library of songs... You hear a half song, then you find another you want to hear… listens to half of that and then a new one…….
Then you can make a playlist and DRAG the song you want to hear onto that.. You only hear that playlist until you forget to drag - and you are back to half songs again… And if you have guests over and let them choose music…. 500 half songs :( What i mean to say is: Why is it so difficult to make playlists and listen to whole songs in iTunes? i don't get it!

Five years ago i made a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmTIV_VYgkk With two ideas, that i think could improve iTunes.. I must unfortunately say that I'm still waiting - its getting better, but its not quite there yet. :)

My Safari doesn't. It's all dependent on whether it's enabled in your System Preferences. I, for one, have it disabled.

When I click "In the Store" in album view, things show up pretty buggy (not sure if someone already said this, but I'm not about to read 30-some pages).

Really? 10.8.2 / 6.0.2 doesn't minimize when I double click the title bar on any window (and neither does any other application I try).

Ed: Ahh, it's a system preference (disabled for me).

I like the color icons in the sidebar, I wish I could get those back for iPhoto and Finder...:(

So very true, seeing those beautiful coloured icons reminded me of how Finder used to look. Why they decided to strip it of all colour is beyond me. The icons look SO much better with colour! Maybe this is a sign that we are getting them back.. I hope!

under videos in musics, aka music videos, is there a way to change the view? I get thumbnails and song names and a time, no way to show artist, genre, etc? I cannot turn on list view.

I see that I can go to the music videos playlist and it sort of works this way, but not exactly.

Can you please post a screenshot of this view/setup? Thanks!

I won't have the chance to download until Saturday, Maybe a good thing. It'll give me a few days to watch the dust settle and get a better idea about the software. So far three things I've esult of read bug me and hope they're not true, but are just early reports:

1) Smart Playlists not updating properly based on play counts/last played or somesuch. That will affect how I manage podcasts in a big way.

2) Shuffle being "global" and not "per playlist". Ideally there should be an option but if not I prefer the feature to be more granular.

3) No more coverflow. I've never used this much but I've recently switched from a 17" HP laptop to a Mac Mini using my 55" HDTV as the monitor. I've found this view much more convenient than before. I'm sure some of the new options will do the trick but it was nice to finally have the real estate to enjoy the graphical effect.

Ah, well. Life's short. My guess is the positive trade-offs will make it worth it.

Well, considering the comments above, it really seems like this new version is an iOSified piece of ****.

Flawed list view, dual-column track list (an UI nightmare when you want to have a fluid list of your artist's songs), non-collapsible iTMS arrows, no iTunes DJ, no Cover Flow and so on...tough to accept.

I don't know what I would want in this new version.

Is there still a Genre|Artist|Album browser?

And does it work properly if you don't use iCloud??

Maybe this means not buying any future iPhones/iPads/iPods.

First impressions

I LOVE IT!:D

STEVE WOULD APPROVE THIS!!!:p

I love how everything is simple. It's less clutter and more organize then the previous iTunes. Apple did well. I approve.

iTunes store: Looks great. I love how you can play/sample a song and browse other music at the same time

Pull your head out of Apple's ass.

Basic is the word. The old hybrid view would allow you to include bitrate, date, category, last skipped, last added, rating, comment, plays, kind, season, episode, show etc., etc. Quite useful to have that info at a glance. Nice for sorting, too.

Can't do any of that in the crippled Artists view.

No no, not the mini-player. When you double-click on title bars for the old iTunes and any other app, you can minimize the application without having to hit the yellow circle. I've been using this feature of OSX for ages, and is a real time saver... why would they take that out of the new iTunes.

I know what you're talking about because I use it a lot too. Not sure why Apple would remove such a thing (probably because it's not iOS-like  ) but as an alternative, you could try using command+M which minimizes the front window.

Just curious: what OS version are you on? I'm on 10.7.5 and it works for me.

Awesome: Dropkick Murphys have a new album coming out
Not so awesome: iTunes Store

Under System Prefs >> Dock, Double click Window to Minimize :)

That being said, even enabled doesn't let iT11 do it ... no biggie, just use the yellow stoplight, or in my case, BTT + Magic Mouse, three fingers down to minimize
