I won't have the chance to download until Saturday, Maybe a good thing. It'll give me a few days to watch the dust settle and get a better idea about the software. So far three things I've esult of read bug me and hope they're not true, but are just early reports:

1) Smart Playlists not updating properly based on play counts/last played or somesuch. That will affect how I manage podcasts in a big way.

2) Shuffle being "global" and not "per playlist". Ideally there should be an option but if not I prefer the feature to be more granular.

3) No more coverflow. I've never used this much but I've recently switched from a 17" HP laptop to a Mac Mini using my 55" HDTV as the monitor. I've found this view much more convenient than before. I'm sure some of the new options will do the trick but it was nice to finally have the real estate to enjoy the graphical effect.

Ah, well. Life's short. My guess is the positive trade-offs will make it worth it.

Shuffle seems to work just fine per playlist - I choose a playlist from the left, click the shuffle icon, and it shuffles the playlist.

The playcount issue appears to be related to crossfade - turn it off, and everything works (according to other forums).

Pull your head out of Apple's ass.

Basic is the word. The old hybrid view would allow you to include bitrate, date, category, last skipped, last added, rating, comment, plays, kind, season, episode, show etc., etc. Quite useful to have that info at a glance. Nice for sorting, too.

Can't do any of that in the crippled Artists view.

agreed, hybrid was my go-to

they need to improve the Songs view to have album art (hybrid) and separation of albums so it's not just one long, painful list

by the way, someone earlier in this thread said there is no album art view in the list view.

this is nonsense. 'artists' list view is basically that view. i dont know how anyone else set it up, but in artist list view, i have list view of songs, that i can order by artist, album by year, with album art visible! with a decent artist list column on the left.

i will definitely be using artist and album views most often.

Simple question, then: can you, with your "artist album art" view, have all artists shown sequentially as it always was before? Or does your "list" end with the last album of an artist?

See the point on crappy iPadification now?

Okay the glitch I noticed happening to the iTunes stores seem to happen when in full screen mode, not really good. I hope this glitch gets asap before the holidays.

BUGS I've noticed...

* Go To Current Song (Command-L) doesn't work. At all. From the menu, command-key, or the popup menus. Kind of a problem.
* When in list mode on a playlist, I cannot turn off the Column Browser. In fact, all menu options for that feature are greyed out.

I've narrowed down the bug on this -- if you enable the Sidebar, then the Go To Current Song command no longer works. Column Browser for playlists in List mode doesn't work with the Sidebar enabled, either. Must be a corner-case conditional that they didn't check. Pretty sure they must have rushed out this release to hit their self-imposed deadline.

What's annoying to me, Sidebar or no, is that the song selection doesn't update in the Grid display mode. Now that they've killed the Sidebar artwork, Grid mode would be my consolation prize view choice, but without the artwork updating it's useless.

The Mini player looks really nice on a clean desktop. Also I'm not having any issues that others are having with the buttons.

Stinks you still have to create a playlist to play your podcasts. They should've made it like the app with it's sorting abilities and continuous play

What you just described is much better, and is in no way "ipaddy"

and how is it no longer "sequential"?

The new Device management page is majorly improved.

I'm still not clear what you're looking for ... if I choose Artist view, then from the column of artist, choose ALL, the 3rd column is a list of artists, albums and songs, all of them, in one continuous list (though it's kind of a table type view).

I know this is very minor but I hate how trailers now go full screen automatically and there is no way to minimize them.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Wifi Sync is much smoother now I think... no more "Can't find device" messages so far.

Damned, I want to see a list view of ALL my songs sorted by album/artist and showing album art as it is the case right now with 10.7.

Can I have this or not? And please don't tell me I need a playlist for that.

If you would spend more than 15 minutes with it, you'd realize that iTunes 11 has settings that will make it look and operate pretty much like iTunes 10.7…with the added benefit of running quicker and with more features.

It seems you can't have album artwork in list view. I'd say that's pretty much NOT like iTunes 7. I didn't like how it wouldn't show it for shared libraries either. It's kind of a big mess with just text lists and no breaks.

Really? 10.8.2 / 6.0.2 doesn't minimize when I double click the title bar on any window (and neither does any other application I try).

Ed: Ahh, it's a system preference (disabled for me).

Where in System Preferences ?

I really like the look of the new iTunes, but it's still far from lightweight, and scrolling is choppier on my maxed out rMBP than it was in iTunes 10.7. Apple really should separate iTunes into apps that mirror the ones in iOS (Music, Videos, iTunes store, etc.). As a music player, the monolithic iTunes we have today is subpar, and it always will be as long as it's trying to do so many things at once. I should be able to stream music from iCloud without having to launch such a heavyweight program.

Weird, how are you getting that view? This is the UI I see in my Mini Player:

itunes11_mini.jpg

I don't have any of the song information. :/

It has all artists.
