I can honestly say I never thought id see the day when Apple prioritise Windows over OSX. I really miss iTunes on the Mac and dislike the separate apps and finder based management.

People like to knock it as a media management platform but honestly I cannot think of anything better. What else AM I supposed to use? Winamp? Songbird?!

Swinsian app is great

The Apple Music app on Mac still has the iTunes CD ripping functionality apparently. I haven't tried it but it's still in there.
My iMac is older than dirt (2007) and I've been using a Windows machine since 2010.
I don't know anything about the Apple Music App on Mac.
iTunes is good for CDs to digital and group transcoding.
I really don't use these features much anymore.
I listen to Internet music mostly for free.
I can see iTunes going away (Windows) with a suitable replacement.
My PC cannot use Windows 11.
I'm not thinking of a new PC or Mac. Thinking Linux.
Maybe Chrome OS. That needs more research from me.

Don't understand what you miss about it. The Music, Podcast & TV apps are all great and work as intended.

Music does need a revamp across all Apple platforms but even in its current state its still a trillion times better than what iTunes was.
Music app is broken when it comes to large music libraries. I can't use it for the over 100,000 tracks I have where the metadata was custom-entered by hand and doesn't exist in any databases. iTunes was pretty great in its classic iteration and kept getting worse with updates.

It might be worth trying Retroactive to install an older version of iTunes and seeing if that helps? https://github.com/cormiertyshawn895/Retroactive
This never worked.

I would love to know if this works for managing an old iPod on Ventura. That’s one major hang up that’s keeping me from moving on from my old Mac Pro and Mojave.
Sadly it didn't work for me, but I believe others have had it work for them. Take a look at the iPod part of this forum.

I notice that a few times a week people on reddit couldn't get their iPod to work with Ventura either.

Itunes on my PC has worked really well. I'm not a fan of the new formats. Heck, on the Mac computer, I can't even buy full box set series of TV shows because the TV app doesn't have it. I have to either use Itunes or go on the Apple TV. The TV app is a mess, and the music app leaves some to be desired as well. Itunes just feels more convenient.

I miss iTunes for the Mac. Clueless Cook has canceled useful Apple products such as iTunes, AirPort, etc.
In many respects, Apple is a multi-trillion dollar company because of him. Discontinuing unprofitable products is not clueless.

Everybody was complaining a few years back that iTunes was a bloated mess and that it needed to go, yet those same people are now claiming the opposite…

As for Apple’s “AirPort” router, sales had been declining for years and the whole “AirPort” lineup of routers had become extremely niche. The router market is saturated with a bunch of different manufacturers, so there’s little room for competition.

Then again, what do I know? I’m sure that “Thomas” from MacRumors knows more than the executive of a multi-trillion dollar company… 🤣

Before I bought a new Laptop Itunes was pretty slow for me. Since I bought the Acer computer (And this is a few years now), Itunes has run really well. I haven't seen it slow or anything like that. On the Mac, the various apps are ok, but kind of confusing to navigate. Itunes just worked, and maybe I was just used to it for 10+ years but it was a lot more useful and customer friendly.

It also changed the game in terms of how we listen to music and the data you can get from it, something that actually made me come back to Apple from Android because I hated how Last.fm worked (Always duplicating everything).

Still a fan of itunes simply because I still find it easier to manipulate and view my library and it's the only way to create smart playlist which I find super handy.

Wondering if this update will fix my airplay that just stopped working of if that is some firewall setting I can't find or can't change. I know it worked at one time and it was fantastic!

Windows Media Player, of course!

Good post. The AirPort router, and I used all of them, really declined is usefulness and couldn't begin to keep up with the better routers that were coming out. It would have been financially irresponsible if Apple had continued this product. They made the wise decision to drop it.

And you're right about iTunes. There is a large component of posters here that are simply Apple haters. They complain about every product that Apple creates and then when a new version comes out, they quickly learn to hate it also. I was fine with iTunes and I'm perfectly fine with Apple Music. The posts have become more entertainment than any thing else. It's like a mass tryout for the Comedy Club. Informative posts are getting rarer and rarer.

I want to be able to buy boxsets of tv series on my mac computer. If that means Itunes, so be it. The current set up isn't doing it.

I seriously advise you to buy box sets on Amazon instead. I bought a couple of my favorite complete series before Apple announced Apple TV+. On the Mac, you have to watch them with the TV app. The TV app is now just one giant ad for Apple TV+. Even with a subscription, the ads are everywhere and purposely overwhelm the list of episodes you were actually watching.

The Amazon Prime Video app at least lets me watch until the end without ruining the credits.

If we’re going to be forced to use a bad video playing client, might as well use the one that’s cross platform. Apple was the last video platform that didn’t try to ruin the experience to increase engagement. That’s over now, and Amazon price matches any sales Apple has anyway.

I bet that 80-85% of us want iTunes back. YOU HEARING THAT APPLE.?
This would make Mr. Cook laugh so hard, he'd probably lose control of his bodily functions. :D

Who is "us"? Certainly not me or anyone I know. In reality, the vast majority of Apple users just enjoy using Apple products and don't give a damn about the switch to Apple Music from iTunes. "iTunes, were glad to have known you, but you're now gone and good riddance to you".

To be fair, it can both be true that iTunes needed a serious overhaul, and that its replacement is not what we had in mind.

It seems pretty clear Apple Music and the TV app were designed more to push Apple’s services than to improve the experience of iTunes. There are far, far more ads in those apps than were in iTunes. There weren’t any ads in iTunes. Now when I open the TV app to watch shows I purchased, I’m overwhelmed by huge, auto playing videos for TV+ series. Even with a subscription.

iTunes for Windows is a good thing for those who have to use Windows for work etc. if they prefer Apple's Ecosystem.

Personally, I am openminded as far as trying new technology or trying something different, but also practical and will compare the Old vs. New (regarding technology) to see what actually "works" an go with that.

Though I understand Apple's reasoning for splitting up iTunes on the Mac into individual apps ($), after using it for the last few years, the user experience is not optimal. Sometimes older tech achieves optimal performance and user experience, so sometimes it is better to go back after trying.

It might be just preference, but iTunes generally "worked" better. Yes, it needed improvements, but the concept "worked".

I’m fine with Music until they remove the classic use case tools like creating smart playlists, rating songs and less importantly ripping CDs. Maybe then I’ll have to travel full circle back to windows and iTunes.

I am a little disappointed in making iPods obsolete with Ventura, but I still have some older very functional machines which were forced into early obsolescence too.., so I’ve got that going for me.

As for AirPort.., it was more about the clean experience setting up and managing AirPort vs all of the other router’s web interfaces. Most of them have apps now, but they are still much more complicated than AirPort. I would have loved to see Apple embrace AirPort and mesh networks in it’s effort to connect the whole home… If only there had been an obvious subscription service they could have used to justify the product line… 😂
