Software Update just stopped working on my iMac (2013 27 i5, 10.10.4). It shows 3 updates available, none of them are iTunes. It freezes up instead of downloading anything, and my entire machine slows down to a crawl. Quitting the app didn't help, so I had to reboot. I haven't tried the iOS updater yet, because I don't want to risk my phone screwing up and leaving me stranded.

Does anyone know if there's a way to prevent the Mac Music app from uploading my music or otherwise "matching" it with the Apple servers? I never joined iTunes Match, don't want to, and I've got Genius disabled too. I don't want to try the new app unless I'm certain that stuff can be disabled.

I realize you said you'd give them a pass (but only due to servers being bogged down....) but I think it's quite unfair to compare a newly worldwide launched product to one that's been seasoned. I'm sure Spotify had tons of growing pains to go through when it first released. It takes time and software updates before something will be buttery smooth and fast.

Well yeah, but a number of issues with your theory there - the technology is no different to streaming the iTunes store snippets which its been doing for nearly a decade and they too start slow. iTunes match has streamed slow since its inception and Apple has never managed to have a single fast cloud service. Thats my worry. Spotify on the other hand i've been using since 2009 and its always had almost instant streaming - as if the files are right on your server. To be honest whoever is behind that part of their service is a genius. Its a shame the rest of the software is so limiting.

I'd hold off on updating it. It has issues that will screw up your library:

Just installed. Noticed the 'Airplay' option is gone while listening to the Beats1 Radio station. Wonder why that is? I was actually looking forward to playing it on my speakers tonight.

Same as well. Did either of you use iTunes Match? My smart playlists are fine, because they won't go up into the cloud in the first place. I think that iTunes is overwriting my library with extremely old iTunes Match data. Or at least that's my guess.

Also, you can turn off Apple Music for the short term and restore your library; Apple was at least smart enough to create a backup in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder next to your library file. Guess they knew it was buggy as hell.
Backup is always a good idea.

Exact same issue, except I updated on iOS on iPad and iPhone perfectly fine. But my 2012 15" rMBP is entirely unable to update anything. I pull up the App Store, and it shows a Garage Band and Xcode update, but no other updates. I try to update those things and the App Store fully locks up and doesn't do anything. I've restarted the computer, force quit the app store, all sorts of things. Can't install ANY updates on my mac...

Whew! I thought Apple has neglected the OS X completely after installing 10.10.4 I was mad no Apple Music on iTunes. Yes it did came late but I guess Apple no longer prioritize OS X these days and just focus more on iOS first then the rest. I don't like what is going on and I am not happy in the future. Look what they've done on Aperture.

The new playlist UI has me seriously confused...some of my playlists look identical to before except with the new colored bar at the top...others are much bigger and lack the sorting columns, star ratings, etc...what am I missing?

So finally I know the difference between iTunes Match and Apple Music's own "matching system", if you have, let's say, crappy mp3, it matches them and let's you download a .m4p files, which is essentially the same exact copy iTunes has in the store, but with DRM, it also uploads music your music to the cloud if it isn't on Apple Music already...

The benefits of iTunes Match is that apart from uploading the stuff and matching, it actually lets you keep your copy, forever, even if you stop paying for iTunes Match, you can't have in on the cloud anymore, but the matched copy is yours forever. So if you want to keep your music, iTunes Match still is the way to go, plus if you don't care about Apple Music you can also just subscribe to iTunes Match all by itself.

Not a bad deal.
So apple music is Basically a service which could let you to download drm protected files to listen when going offline.
And iTunes match can let you literally keep songs matched forever, without drm.

Holy crap! Where did all my awesome iTR stations go!?

Are you kidding me?! Did Apple Music app delete these? Wow...

It looks like Apple has pulled iTunes 12.2? I just downloaded, and it's downloading iTunes 12.1.2.

Never mind. Had to clear cache.

Wasn't Beats1 suppossed to be a live radio station 24/7? Why are they repeating Zane's segment?

They could record 8 hours live, and adjust contents to fit multiple time zones throughout the world.
So you may listen to some songs the second time if you catch up with beats 1 from the beginning.

I highly recommend anyone who had iTR radio stations to take screen shots of iTunes before updating so you can search for those artists again because Apple Music wipes it all.

p.s. I can't sign in to Apple Music. Stays at login screen and both the sign in button and cancel button don't work.

But that's not "live" to me, I doubt anyone thinks otherwise. If you are promoting a 24/7 worldwide stationg, always live, always on, beats1!!! I expect it to be live all the time. It's 7 am right now in Europe, I expect to hear live radio, not the same things I head yesterday evening.

It's always on 24/7, not necessarily live 24/7. I think they will have new playlists everyday but those shows will have 1 repeat. Zane's show from earlier in the day is repeating now. Otherwise, their sleep schedules would be awful. lol

I must say I'm a little disappointed. I was looking forward to the feature of having my library along side the Apple Music library and being able to add songs from Apple Music to my smart playlists. I'm able to do so but a lot of my smart lists are not available via iCloud because they are built upon other smart playlists...an issue that's been going on for years. It never bothered me as I synced my iPhone to iTunes anyway and didn't use the cloud to get my music onto my iPhone. However when I try to sync my iPhone to iTunes I get the message that you are unable to copy Apple Music songs to iPhone. In order for me to get the songs I have to turn on Apple Music on the iPhone but then I can't access my smart playlists that won't work on iCloud. A big hassle. The service is still new so I'm hoping for a fix for this as everything else is good.

But I thought that's why it was a Worldwide station! Because when one part of the world is sleeping, the other part is waking up, so that's why you got DJs from both parts of the world. Seriously, I heard Zane's segment yesterday at 6 pm, now I'm listening to it again. That's not live for me and I highly doubt that's "live" for anyone.

I understand what you're saying but nowhere on the beats1 website does it say it would be live 24/7. I'm sure as they have more shows it'll start to fill up the time slots.

Don't you think that sounds a little entitled?
